Hi all,

I recently looked into buying a new set of tires for My XLT FX4 2020 Ranger.
I looked to find reviews on the tires but couldn't really find much.
There are multiple sites that have "reviews" however they are impersonal, and often based on assumption from "reading the label" rather than actual use.
Example: https://comparethetire.com/falken-wildpeak-at3w-vs-falken-rubitrek-at/
That isn't to say these reviews are bad or aren't useful but that sometimes real world experience isn't always the same as what's written on the brochure.

Tire:

265/60/R18 @35PSI (5 over Truck Recommended 30PSI)

Overview:

Overall after around 1500 miles I am very happy with these tires. I feel extremely confident driving with them with no worry that I will loose control/traction on road or off. They do lose a bit of MPG compared to the 40k mile factory Dynapros but any true A/T will.

On Road Handling:

So over the last few weeks I've been driving on these tires. I have to say overall I love them and they've been solid in heavy rain, in mud, in dirt, on the beach, and on the road. Over the last 3 weeks each weekend I've gone on short trips . Often I've taken the US-26 between Hillsboro, OR and Warrenton, OR (<2hr each way). The first weekend the road was dry but I was driving 65 and evaded branches in the road as well as a deer in the road. The second weekend a car was broken down with lights off abandoned half in the road, half in the safety lane. The third weekend (this last weekend) It was raining with heavy fog at points and strong gusts that I watched nudge other vehicles around. The road going into Seaside, OR was a bit flooded out. Through all these things the tires kept their grip. I never felt an inch of slip. I feel extremely confident driving with these tires in on road conditions. I can stop easily and quickly, I can accelerate no problem, and I can take quick turns to evade objects or animals in wet or dry weather with no problem.

On Road Comfort:

They're quiet. I do not notice any additional noise with these tires over what the Dynapro's produced. If you ride with them at the Rangers recommended PSI (30) the ride is pretty soft, to much so for my taste. I pump mine up to 35psi cold (which hits about 37/38 when hot). At 35psi the ride is still soft enough on the road to be comfortable but of course your mileage may vary. If you travel on bad roads regularly you may want to keep the Ranger rated 30psi as you will notice potholes more at 35psi.

On Road MPG:

This is a bummer but to be expected. The dynapros got the Rangers marketed 20City/24Hwy when pumped to 35psi. These tires are getting about 17City/22Hwy under similar speeds and driving conditions. This is partially due to more contact with the road but also due to the weight of the tire which you can feel when accelerating. The truck is still plenty quick but the Rubitreks are built more like a traditional A/T where the Dynapros were much closer to a street tire. Heavy tires with thicker tread (more traction) are noticeable for sure.

Off-road (Service Trails/Dirt/Gravel and Beach/Sand):

I took the tires off road onto some light service trails outside Garibaldi, On loose dirt/gravel trails the tires got a solid bite and climbed easily. Going over rocks/small boulders. I didn't feel any slippage (though the small rocks I trailed over were fairly dry, not in wet weather.) I experienced much of the same at Sunset Beach outside of Warrenton where I would put the truck in 4H and 4L and had zero issue crawling through the sand whether it was packed, loose, wet, or dry. I tried to get the truck stuck on the beach but couldn't. There's a small hill you can climb at the entrance which was a ton of fun. The truck powered up it on these tires keeping grip very well even though the top dirt was loose. When tilting the truck at an angle my girlfriend was a bit nervous but she got in the drivers seat and around it on her own and told me she was surprised how in control she felt. That she didn't realize just how easy it was. She went from being nervous I was going to total the truck to being exciting. She did accidentally roll over a thick pointy piece of wood about 1ft long that pointed towards the tire and the tire rolled over it with no harm.

Not tested:

So far on these tires I haven't tried Snow/Ice (but I will be as soon as it snows and it will). I also I haven't tried climbing any serious off road trails (I mainly am using this truck for small adventures right now). For any kind of bouldering you might be better suited with Wild Peaks as their side wall is a little more robust. However that's not to say these tires can't take the occasional beating, but that I wouldn't do it day to day.

Looks:

They are good looking tires. Feel free to see for yourself in this imgur link:

Price:

At the time I bought them for $185.64 a tire from Amazon. I was looking between these and the Wildpeaks which were priced at $264 @Discount Tire. This is prior to install but meant I was spending $742.56 vs $1,056 for the tires themselves. It was a sizeable difference. I also considered that the Wildpeaks are a bit heavier and as such may have a slightly worse MPG drop than the Rubitreks. While the Wildpeaks have a heavier sidewall I personally am using these for some light offroad but mostly on road use (90/10 split) so I didn't see a benefit in paying for the Wildpeaks for my usage.

Thanks for reading, if anyone has any question please let me know. I'm happy to share my experience.

I have the Wildpeaks currently and love them. Will have to look into these when it comes time to get new tires. Article says these are better for on road comfort

I'm driving from Vancouver WA to Astoria OR a lot. Stayed off the road last Friday it was crazy. Cheers for the review, always on the look out for a solid wet weather tire being up here in the PNW.

Thanks for a great review. I have been really looking at these. Local tire shop has them $205 each and they have good tho he to say about them. But they are also in the business of selling tires. You might have just sold me.

Of course! Other peoples reviews help me all the time so I figure I should do the same back.

I did have fun, a lot of fun! I've had the truck 2 months and it's a world a difference from my old 4.9l 2WD 95' F150. Every time I get in the truck I feel like I'm going to have an adventure.
