We had a 2003 Mitsubishi Montero, the full size 7 seater.Subaru Brat...THE perfect Drive In transport with viewing seats...
The third row normally faced forward but you could flip a lever and the seat would face rearward out the back hatch. Actually, it was normally folded flat under the rear floor.
Many times we went to one of the few remaining drive-ins (the one in Blue Ridge GA) and backed into the space to let our boys sit in the rear facing third row. They thought it was the coolest thing ever.
The wife and I sat on folding chairs.
That Mitsubishi was a terrific vehicle for raising the kids. Room for them and their friends, rock-solid reliable, an awesome Infinity factory stereo, and amazingly good off road for camping and such.
I bought it new and kept it for 17 years. It NEVER went back to the dealer for anything and the only non routine maintenance thing that failed in 17 years was a $15 solenoid.
Edit: Found a pic from one of our family excursions in it. The seats inside all folded flat into a big bed. Between that and the RTT there was room for all 4 of us.
The RTT mounted right onto the factory roof rails.
