5 pages is miniscule compared to past threads on here with hundreds perhaps thousands of threads devoted to anti ev diatribes, highlighting all of the environmental issues, battery failures, range anxiety, gov compelling people to buy ev , bridges collapsing owing to the weight, out of control battery fires ranging, etc Much of it was inaccurate sensational drivel posted by the anti ev crowd, now suddenly evs are seemingly back in favor on here, go figure. Oh ev batteries are covered by a gov mandated warranty , 8 yrs and 80k miles or maybe 100k miles, and despite the dredged up horror stories about batteries failing the real evidence suggests the batteries are proving to be reliable .

The technology is advancing very quickly. The F150 lightnings did give electric trucks a big setback in my mind and they still are going up in smoke at this point. Like any new technology, the first generation had problems that are being addressed and improved upon along with prices dropping. The cost of ICE vehicle maintenence is also skyrocketing and their reliability dropping. It's at the point both have about the same life expectation so it is worth looking into and comparing both now. Too bad all the raw materials and chips used for battery production still come from China.

I'll just go ahead and say straight up, that I am not a fan of the Tesla EVs, the people who have them and drive them, there's several here in Fannin County. More power to them lol.
I will be happy to find an OBS Ford truck that I can daily drive and enjoy after the Ranger is paid off.
That is OBS Ford Ranger or F150.
No nanny controls.

Yup I was anti-EV for years but the more advanced they got the more I started to talking to real people (not internet people) that owned them I became more familiar/educated with them. I'm still not 100% sold on them but since retiring and now moving back down here it will fit my lifestyle better now. Like I said in one of these posts you never know what they're like until you try one. It was an eye opener and fun to drive but I still have a lot to look into before even seriously considering one.

Everything being on the touch screen is irrelevant because in the next couple years we're going to see everyone going that route. I honestly rarely look at my speedometer anyways. I usually just go with the flow of traffic and after driving a Ranger for 7 years I can judge the speed pretty well around town. On the highway is even easier because I just set the ACC and go.

Batteries will always be advancing and it's no different than computers and smartphones. Once you but them they're almost obsolete within months because something better and faster just came out. IDK I just look at what I'm buying and if it fits my lifestyle and I'm happy with it that's all that matters. If you keep chasing the newest thing you'll either be broke or sitting on the sidelines forever.

Holey smokes, 5 pages since Friday. I dont have time to catch up but in Newport Beach, CA there was a Tesla as fashion island so we poked in to see if they had a cybertruck for my son to sit in since he loves that thing. Told them we weren't buyers, just explained my sons interest and they basically tossed me the keys to one and said take it around the block, well I sure did.

The thing is fast for how heavy it is, instant torque but felt like I was driving a video game car and from the center. I would entertain a Tesla sedan if I had to commute in the city and still kept the truck for road trips.

The one thing that worries me is batteries, I am sure they have a good warranty but man that is a scary price to pay if not covered and I own it still.

They are really good about just throwing you the keys (so to speak as there are no keys) and letting you take it alone. The salesman said Tesla doesn't want their salesman out on the road for long and to let the customer drive what they want. They had a Cybertruck out front but I had no interest in even driving that tank. lol

Battery replacement is always a concern and I read somewhere it's around $15K depending on size, capacity etc. I'm sure that'll get cheaper as time goes on but a new engine & transmission is going to be close to that.

AI tells me the correct phrase is "hindsight is 20/20" and not 50/50. I think in hindsight the gov driven plan for EVs set the industry back for the foreseeable future. The negative reaction to legislation outlawing sale of ICE should have been understood. . I can't recall seeing Tesla drivers being more aggressive than other drivers but I guess folks have their reasons for disliking Tesla and/or Elon Musk, but the guys accomplishments are huge. I've read that some makers are returning to knob and button controls driven by customer preference, but it's cheaper using the touch screen and lesser cost usually prevails. I prefer simple intuitive controls, the Subaru to me has too many controls and too much non vital information being displayed.

I for one do not think full on EV's do not work for the majority of residents in the Canadian prairies.
Our winters are brutal and seem to last forever. From what I have read, our hot hot summers are not kind to the batteries range either. I am all in when it comes to hybrids. Our 2014 Fusion has been my favourite vehicle I have ever owned. Almost 180,000 kms and we are still averaging 40 mpg.

ok ok, i get all of that, but what about my buttons inside the car? I want my buttons, and i want them NOW.

I really do kinda want one as a second city commuter car/grocery getter. Wife is onboard somewhat, I need her buy in before I make that purchase. lol

I looked at and wondered about buttons even before I bought the car. I don’t like some of the Ranger’s touch screen / lack of buttons. However, in the Tesla, everything is so automated, I hardly ever make any adjustments. I simply don’t need or miss them. I’m glad I did not purchase add on buttons.

I agree but subsidies that favor more effluent buyers that then virtue signal owning them as a badge of green honor, who then later sacrifice their EV misiah ala Julious Caesar when the political winds change is at the least polarizing.

Perhaps this taints the overall picture Of EVs for some. Many like me are totally in favor and think EV is badass. Just not ready to take the plunge With current technology, pricing, range anxiety and infrastructure.

As far as subsidies go I always say If a product needs a subsidy, then how good can it really be? It really should be able to sell itself without any help from the government or anyone. Plus in a few years things could change and they'll be adding them back.

Now if there are subsidies I'm most definitely going to take them and the $7,500 subsidy would've made my decision a little easier. But now that I'm footing the whole bill I'm going to be way more cautious and look into it a lot more. Which is what I'd do anyways being super OCD.

I’ve always said as soon as they get 400 mile range and can fill up in under 10 minutes at as many places as I can get gas I’m in. Looks like we’re getting closer.

I can imagine there was every bit as much resistance at the time civilization transitioned from horse and buggy as we experience now personally in the eventual move from ICE to electric vehicles and all the super-techy stuff. Some day our grandchildren, if not our children will be wondering how we geezers ever survived without all the tech aids and electric cars.

Anyway, it sounds like @AzScorpion and Miss Annie had a fun day exploring the G forces our Rangers just can't quite provide.

We really don't shop at Walmart anymore. I don't do well with purple haired, tattooed with nose ring people teaching their kids to steal. A while back we were by the cookies getting a box of triscits. A cart rolls up down the aisle a way and I hear the kid say I want a cookie. Mom or whoever grabs one of the expensive packs, opens it up and gives it to the kid. A couple rows over I see the half eaten pack on a shelf. Tell an employee who informed me they're supposed to ignore stuff like that, It happens often. We can get anything Walmart sells cheaper from Amazon the next day or sometimes in hours with being exposed to today's generation.

I am so done with WalMart. I took a chance recently to see if they had the varmint ammo I needed so I wouldn't have to pay shipping. Waited about 10 minutes for the guy behind the counter to finish with someone ahead of me. Then he just walked away, never even acknowledged me. I'm WTF'd he go? Then as I walked out, I saw him stocking shelves a couple aisles over. Guess I wasn't his color.

EV's are cool, you cannot argue that they are just cool technology. Will they save the planet? No. But they are cool nonetheless.
When my boss bought a Tesla, he took me for a ride. He floored it when merging onto the highway. HOLY CRAP! My brain was going "wait, that was freakin' awesome, but something's missing!" Then I realized any vehicle I had previously been in when floored had engine noise to go along with it. I couldn't believe the acceleration without noise.
