My Annie and I bought 25 GT Convertible 60th edition in February of 26 and it sat until all the road salt washed away. It’s got the Active Exhaust and I put on an H-Pipe. I experience that EV thrill you had every time I’m topless, the car that is, and I wake up the COYOTE. I feel 17 again. Annie in her youth never dated a motor head and didn’t understand my desire for SALLY until she got behind the wheel and mashed the fun pedal.

We all know why some are triggered by Musk when just a couple years ago he was the darling of one party for his EVs. So yes it is political and ends here.


This forum is really not the same anymore. Maybe everyone needs to read the rules again and familiarize themselves with them. We wont tolerate anyone swearing at another member or crying about their political dislike for another member or political party whether he's not "technically " a political leader. I've seen it in the posts way too often now and it's going to stop. We never had these issues this often before and if people feel the need to argue about politics there's Reddit, which is a toxic waste dump.

**ETA...When someone mentions the government, or a representative or even Musk it's not a huge deal. It's adding the hateful labels after that now makes it political because we all know the intent.

Example:

Biden just signed a $7,500 EV rebate today. That's fine in an EV thread.

Adding the swasticars label to it now makes it political because we all know the intent of it.

I've driven all the fast cars in one form or another. My buddy runs an exotic car rental. Not always the fastest of a brand, but all rockets none the less. Then I drove his Plaid and it is beyond explanation. There is no words to adequately explain the "pin you in your seat" acceleration.

He told me it makes the rest feel slow, but it's hard to understand until you are in one. I pulled a 2.5 second 0-60mph, and 9.6 second quarter mile. It's completely absurd.

I like ICE, I've been a motorhead my whole life. A lot of that is about the power and speed. ICE or EV, fast is fast, and I've never driven an ICE that compares to the instant punch of hat plaid.

I'd be happy to have a normal, economical EV as my wife's car, but I don't have a wife, lol. I live alone, very rural, and into long road trips. It's not happening as my daily driver for the foreseeable future. Government had a mandate to only sell EV's for all personal vehicles starting in 2035, but then they cancelled it, so I doubt I will ever own one.

Great post Jay and that's why I made it because of the bolded. I've also been a gear head my whole life and have been in (and owned) some pretty fast cars. There really is nothing compared to the "pin you in your seat" acceleration of an EV other than a Nitro car. haha Annies first words were "OMG". lol This is coming from a city girl who drives a Honda Civic and who's never been in anything faster than my '19 tuned Ranger.

The self driving was wild and while I'm still distrustful of it I could see using it on long trips. For those times where you just need that few minutes to clear your head and rest your brain. Another would be in an emergency and no one else is around you could use it as your own personal ambulance to drive you to the hospital.

If you want a screen in front of the driver, there are numerous aftermarket displays that will incorporate with a Tesla and also give you CarPlay, which is not natively supported with Tesla.

And now that my flirtation with a ZR2 is pretty much over, I will probably pivot back to the Tesla and resolve myself to having 2 vehicles instead of trimming down to just one.

Funny you should mention that display because I just saw that last night and posted it here on @GhostStrykre thread. For $399.00 I thinks it's almost a must first mod because it was kind of strange not having any gauges to look at and the mph were on the top left corner of the main screen.

I'm not flitting with the same. I really don't have much use for a truck as much now but I still love my Ranger and we really don't need 2 vehicles. But I really liked the Tesla more than I thought I ever would and it's right up there now with the Hybrid Camry. I'm going to look into this more and maybe test drive both again.

One thing that was enticing was the 0.99% financing for 72 months. Like we just discussed a few days ago it's basically free money and I could pretty much pay for it with the interest on my MM account. The one thing I want to look into is the insurance because I've heard it was a lot more for EVs. That could be the deciding factor.

We all know for a fact that Ford is the most made fun of manufacturer for a reason. It comes down to their "Better Ideas" that aren't quite so better. Also let's face it, regardless what manufacturer you go with, every vehicle out will have its problems and the EV Market is no exception.

That said my statement still stands and I know you can get a better EV elsewhere. I have been looking into the EV Market a bit and if I were to go with one, I would probably go with Rivian or Nissan to be honest. For Rivian it has to do with the styling. I have seen both the truck and SUV. Size wise they are close to the Ranger and talking with a Rivian Truck owner I was able to find out that they are pretty capable out of the box and have better range performance over Tesla. For Nissan I would simply go there because of being familiar with them as is. At the moment they have the new Leaf which looks much better and then the Ariya that is a bit more roomy. It may not have the range, but still a bit more classy. That all said I don't have the use for an EV at this time as the technology still needs to improve a bit before it will work for my needs.

You need a good power source to charge them at home. Last time I asked my electrician ,he said 5-10k for a home charger station. Thats no bueno!
Ford was offering free home chargers if you bought an F150 Lightning,,,,but that F150 has already been discontinued.

We were going to just live with the slow 110v/15A charger that plugs into a standard outlet. Then another quote came in for the same job at ~$4,300 and we jumped on it. In our new house, since we already have 200A service and the panel in the garage, the cost is less than $1k for everything. The majority being the charger itself.

Yes the self driving is subscription based for $100/month. The good thing is you can use it when you want to and not renew it. There's no activation fees or anything else to try and make you keep it. IIRC if you do the whole year it's $1,000 so they knock off $200.00.

Thanks, that's good to know. I have a 200A service here with a couple open slots if I end up getting one which now looks more promising than it did 24 hours ago. lol

Also keep in mind with the fast charging(specifically the supercharging) will degrade the life of the battery quicker vs the slow charge. A few tests were done with different EV vehicles and on average you can loose 4% health in a year on the batt if constantly using the supercharger.

He went over all that with us too and I think most will or tend to slow charge at home. He said using the Supercharging for long trips a few times here and there really doesn't make much of a difference. It's when you're using it the majority of the time it'll degrade the barley life. Pretty much the same for any electric tool or device now.
