Hello everyone, I have a 22 ranger supercab, and the biggest complaint I have is the door checks. They will stop around 35% open, and then swing full the other way. I know this is “working as intended” but I am looking for a way to have it stop around 50-60%
In my Honda I was able to use a door checks from a different model and it worked, and fixed the issue.
I am hoping to find a solution here, I did search and there are threads, but they all seem to just be abandoned not even the OP updates on if they found something.

Before all the “learn how to door” “Becareful more” “you should own a different car” whatever, I understand all of these, and I have adjust to it, I don’t love it, but I’m adjusted. My wife however is not.. and has officially decided she will never adjust lol.

I also see that some of the early models seemed to have cracked or broken ones, mine appear fine, just opening as intended doesn’t help me

Never mind just saw that you noticed the broken door check thread. You want it to open more.

My comprehension sucks. :lipssealed:

Maybe modifying the existing door check would work.

Adding another detent [is that the right term?] just beyond (red arrow) the existing one (circled) looks possible.

Dorman also makes some inexpensive checks that you could experiment on if you’re concerned about botching the OEM door check.

Can you take a pic of the door fully open @ 35%?

I can take photos tomorrow. But I will try and clarify what I am wanting:
- open the door, it rests at around half way open, and if I keep opening it will quickly open to full wide open.
What it is doing:
- open the door, it rests at 35%, and if you keep opening it will quickly go wide full open.

I am attempting to have the testing point of the door be a little more open where it will hold the door at that set open position

I understand what you are wanting to do now and I dug into the design via Ebay

Spit- Balled some ideas
Adding a shim will depend on (distance remaining) of the check arm when door is closed and also distance (clearance) on the end that extends back into the door, I do not see a easy way to modify it (move the detent) without shimming due to the contour change

You could also try filing down the detent contour and make another farther back (from pic view down) but keep in mind the rollers have to ride against whatever you modify.

I would have to see one apart to be sure what they have in that mounting block..

I (THINK) those are spring loaded rollers (noted below)

Check Fit? will adding a spacer create issues on either end of it (clearance)?
This is the unknown question
Plus it would most likely rely on the door hinge stops as primary as the door check arm would never reach its end (full open - stop)
Just something to check (if you add shims)

I think the easiest method of work around is to keep the check arm as is, but get the tension off the springs or lessen that tension some - but keep in mind about windy days and pushing the door open.
Yet another obstacle that just came to mind.
