My wife had a car door that was caught by the wind hit her car. When she came out someone was waiting for her to give them their insurance information. Class act. I couldn’t believe someone actually did the right thing.

I have the factory steps and I would think they help with regular cars next to you like Trig said. I never park close to anyone in parking lots because most just fling their doors open and could care less what's next to them. I'm the one you usually see out in the back all alone. Today we went to the home show at the stadium and my Ranger was all alone in the back corner.
Doesn't happen often but nothing is more annoying then when you park way out in the boonies all by yourself, go into a place, and when you come out some goof is parked next to or in front of you.

I hate the look of factory running boards..... but....

..... to help stop rocks bouncing up and peppering the side of my truck...
That was one selling point for installing Shrockworks Rocksliders on our Ranger.

The other is they are built so strong they'll help provide protection during a side impact accident. They attach to the frame. Most running boards attach to the body.

I always push the side mirrors in so that they need to be readjusted. No damage caused but to be annoying. Just like how they went out of their way to park next to me.

I've had that happen many times. No one for miles and I'll get Sanford & Son.

I had the Rubicon rock sliders on my Wrangler. I was sitting in my Jeep at the Home Depot and a gal wheels up in her Honda Odyssey, slings her door open to jump out and slams my passenger side rock slider with her door (with the near vertical sides of the Jeep and the sliders extending out several inches, she came nowhere near contacting the body of the vehicle).

It makes a huge golf ball sized curve in the edge of her door. She gets all ticked off and is looking at me like it's my fault. I just shrugged my shoulders and watched to see if she decided to get revenge on me for having the gall to protect my vehicle from idiots people like her.

My Ranger has the Shrockworks sliders and they don't stick out far enough to prevent parking lot troglodytes, so I either park far away or next to expensive vehicles that look like they are cared for.

Mine protrude a bit but the 'type' of jackass that parks so close that you need a damn can opener to get in really wont be deterred in parking close just because of the boards. I park far and have no problem walking as far as necessary once I find a spot that gives me comfort.
