I’m curious if anyone has side steps or bars installed & noticed if they protect your doors at all from door dings in parking lots?

From normal cars yes they do. For other trucks, not so much! I ended up getting paint matched door guard strips to catch those. ?

I have the factory steps and I would think they help with regular cars next to you like Trig said. I never park close to anyone in parking lots because most just fling their doors open and could care less what's next to them. I'm the one you usually see out in the back all alone. Today we went to the home show at the stadium and my Ranger was all alone in the back corner.

These door edging protect the door edge of the Ranger but also the car or Truck next to the Ranger, like my Nautlius as seen through the windows of the Ranger....

When you can do it, parking "out in the back all alone" is definitely the best protection!

Plus it's good exercise with the longer walk. Funny because the ones who really need it are parking as close to the door as possible. lol

if you're buying them for protection only, you're wasting your money.
but if you need them for style or access, the bonus is you might get lucky once or trice and prevent a door ding.

For the last year I have been using the “park so far away that the walk was longer than the drive “ method. I’m a bit of a cheapskate, so I needed more than just aesthetics for the reason to purchase some. However If it prevents even a few dings that’s all the excuses I need!

I have the Go Rhino RB20s, and they definitely protect from door dings on most cars. I frequently wipe off paint chips from mine.
How much did those cost , if you don’t mind me asking?
Wiping off someone else’s paint sounds gratifying knowing that their carelessness only damaged their car. I feel like that would make this purchase worth it.

When I bought my Tacoma they didn't come with steps so I bought them online at Auto-anything. They have a lot of options and price ranges too. If you find them cheaper somewhere else they will match the price and usually another 10% from that.

Reminds me of incident when I was a kid. I was probably 8 or so at the time. Was with mom in her week old powered blue VW beetle. Her first new car and she paid for it. Anyways we went to the grocery store (bag boy here) and pulled into a parking spot. Then 30 seconds later a guy pulls up on the passenger side and gets out of his car. The thud and our car rock got mom’s attention! I never saw her that mad. Got out and started giving the guy a massive ear full. He blew her off and walked away smiling! This is when the revenge of Ma kicks in. She walks around to see the crease in the passenger door. Then she puts her bum into his door. Removes her high heel and then with all her might back swings the heel into his driver door 3 times. ? The divots were HUGE! She put her shoe back on and comes around to jump back in the driver seat. Then exclaimed what we want is better at the store across town anyways. My mom is a red head. That should have been the other guys tip not to piss her off! ? She said as we’re driving away, I hope he has fun explainin that to his wife!

I have the RB10’s and find the same, which was one of the reasons for the install. That and to help stop rocks bouncing up and peppering the side of my truck... short wife is another reason. Otherwise I like things to look as clean and uncluttered as possible; that said, the Bugflector II, running boards, and Gatorbacks are purely functional.

Tossing around the idea of deleting my decals, FX4 and subdued flag. Not as though it’s a big decision or anything.
