Do I need crossovers?

I'm looking at upgrading the speakers in my 2023 Ranger XLT. Non B & O package. I have been looking around the last few days and cannot find appropriate info.

Let's say I upgraded my front speakers to a JBL club component kit. They come with crossovers. Do I need to install the crossover? Or is there already a crossover built in the truck with the stock setup?

You'll need to install the crossover. Ford uses resistors on their tweeters as a crossover.

Use the crossovers that come in the kit, as they are designed and tuned for those speakers.

I'm not really a car audio guy, but one of my friends definitely is. He's had crossovers on every install I've ever seen of his, so I'm guessing they are needed if you're leaving OEM audio land.

I am a car audio guy. Yes, install the crossover that comes with the component set. Also pull your own wiring from the crossover to the individual speakers.

If Ford is using a resister, that is likely for attenuation. They typically use a small capacitor on the tweeter as a high-pass filter.
