Aren't our Collision avoidance systems supposed to detect pedestrians too? Would it not detect large animals?

There are two kinds of drivers here in Va., those who have hit deer, and those who will hit deer. I would love to have something like this, hopefully it will not be too costly and be easy to install.

Interesting, but not sure how well it will work in real life. I was born raised and live in Wisconsin, a state known for its high deer/car accidents. I have had several close calls and actually had a deer run into me. The deer usually do not stand in your way and ask to be detected. They appear seeming out of nowhere and many times in groups. Our saying was you don't hit the first one you see, it's the second one you don't that gets you. So unless this thing can detect the animal in the dense roadside cover before it gets into the open, it will not be much help.

Growing up in VA, I taught my kids to pay close attention also to roadside, and if they saw one deer they were to start slowing down even more for the ones that were about to jump out next.

You could say the same thing here just substitute "kangaroo" although we do have deer (not native - feral) but they are not common and collisions with deer are rare. As for kangaroos, well you said it for deer, there are two types of people those who've hit them, and those who haven't yet. Unless you spend your entire life in the inner city, if you drive at night in outer suburbs or semi rural areas, or the country, it's not a matter of if - but when.

It would be nice to have this tech, but be able to transfer it from vehicle to vehicle. I'm sure the big insurance companies will be pushing hard for the gooberment to make it mandatory for car manufacturers........

And thus raise the price of new vehicles even higher.
I'd like to see them require cell phones be disabled while the vehicle is running.
That would make things safer for everyone.
