Anyone changed ignition coils and they won't twist out? What's the trick? Its not like I broke the top off one never I don't make mistakes. I don't want to try anything that would not be a good idea so I am seeing what everyone has to say. I thought some type of lubricant spray but use sparingly? I was lead to this because it is sputtering of shuttering when accelerating just my foot resting on the pedal. No code saying misfire. so side note if this sounds familiar and I am wrong in changing these.

Did you remove the bolt for the coil pack? Try twisting the boot while pulling. You should scan for any DTC codes.

You may have a failing EGR DPFE pressure sensor that will cause the engine to buck at lower speeds and light throttle. If so, see this thread:

Great, thanks Bill! I am going to get the DPFE. I have 84K and it will probably be the culprit from what I am seeing this is a common issue. *fingers crossed*

The rubber boot is not letting go of the spark plug it must be corroded and rusted on. I did indeed remove the bolt the complete top of the coil came apart from the rubber boot that is stuck in the plastic plenum I need something to dig in there and get the rubber out. This is turning out to be a difficult situation/solution. I used a penetrant per a YouTube video suggestion but still stuck. I am thinking a long slender needle nose plyer or maybe a corkscrew. Any ideas are welcome.

When you re-assemble the coil pack onto the spark plug, first put a thin layer of silicone dielectric grease on the inside and outside of the boot.

Well it seems to not be doing what it was before but now just backfiring. I think that all the Lubricant I sprayed under under valve cover is getting recirculated and the cylinder firing is off, weird i am not getting any codes. just can't tell. ugh. I'll give it a day to straighten out. I think I'm talking to myself at this point, haha.

Did you remove #4 spark plug coil (closest to the firewall)? If so, make sure that the coil pack is correctly snapped onto the spark plug. Since there is piping in the way of that coil pack, it is difficult to get the coil onto the plug properly, causing a misfire.

No, I changed number 2, but today I am putting all the original Ford brand coils I took out at 25K they are fine I just thought MSD would be good but reading on this should have stuck with the Ford OEM. It's still shuttering and backfiring. It seems to accelerate at high throttle ok just not low throttle it shutters. I'm guessing maybe the MSD are end of life. This seems to be my last hope. I don't know these new cars. I would think a misfire on one of 4 cylinders would be more loss in power. I did remove my Ford ProCal tune before I started troubleshooting all this and it reported a code (forgot the number I'm gonna look again here soon) but it was a ECU to PCM (i thinks thats the trans module) communication error but it was in memory not active. Also I am not getting any check engine light which I would think I would with all the sensors these days. I hate to think there is an ECU/PCM issue and its just all screwy. I did have a brand new Trans put in 10K ago back in January.

Since you broke the top off of one coil, maybe that is the problem. What code are you getting?

Good tip. I have always used the di-electric grease in this manner! I started using it back in the day when there were distibutor caps and wires! :)

I replaced the broken coil. I have to look at the code again.

Big Doh! Needed spark plugs badly. I would not have thought after 50K they would be done but they were finished. Runs like a new truck and I'm very happy now. After digging ignition coil rubber out of under the valve cover, etc. and yes liberal amounts of dielectric grease.
