Does anyone else suspect the "Inspect hoses, fittings, etc" is half-assed or just not done at all by the mechanics? I feel like the new guy would do it once or twice but most would eventually just skip it and take a break instead. Nothing you can prove.
True, but there isn't anything requiring proof, as long as the shop signs off on the work order stating that it was done.

if they actually inspect all the things they claim to i would be totally shocked. more likely it is a "glance over" and they did not see it glaringly broken, gushing or on fire lol.

Yeah but it has other stuff like" Check the automatic transmission fluid level, and the rear axle lubricant. Inspect and lubricate all non-sealed steering linkage and suspension joints, half- and drive-shafts and universal joints." Once they start skipping one thing they're skipping another. "These things are never low on trans fluid" I can practically hear them saying.

It's difficult to confirm that they did all that was supposed to be done. I don't worry about it as long as they document that the full service was done. If I blow an engine or trans because they skipped a step, it's on them.

Digging a little deeper I found this Doc.

30,000 miles
At 30,000 miles, replace the engine air filter, rotate and inspect tires, change the oil and oil filter when indicated on the vehicle message center, or every 12 months, whichever comes first. Inspect all hoses, connections and fittings under hood. Inspect the complete exhaust system and all heat shields for damage or possible leaks. Check the automatic transmission fluid level, and the rear axle lubricant. Inspect brake pads, rotors, brake lines and hoses, along with the parking brake system. Inspect and lubricate all non-sealed steering linkage and suspension joints, half- and drive-shafts and universal joints.
Thank You !

I'm not interested in having inspections done. I look things over regularly myself, and don't need them trying to sell me extras.

I have the fluids changed on schedule (tranny, transfer, diffs, coolant, brakes) and have the filters changed on schedule, the rest is reactive to warning signs I notice while driving or visual signs when doing maintenance. The less time I have anyone else working on my vehicles, the less likely they are to break things or push things I don't need.

If I get a female doctor she better be prepared to take me out for dinner after the procedure! Lol
