Center Console Lighting

I have a '19 XLT 4x4 and I actually don't think the gear shift lights do light up in the center console. But the 4WD switch definitely lights up what ever selection you're in as well as the switch above that with the drive settings.

Yes, the 4WD does light up as well as the gear indicator on my truck when the lights are on, but it doesn't have a red line or anything else to indicate which gear I'm in.

Oh yeah, that's right. The PRNDS does light up but it doesn't change illumination based on which gear you're in. That information is displayed ONLY on the IPC (instrument panel cluster).

I have a 2021 XLT and can confirm the PRNDS on the center console DO NOT light up. Yet another example of nickel and dime cost cutting by Ford.

2020 XLT FX4 Nov 20 build date. no backlights beside gear shifter. 4wd selector only lights up what mode your in (2wd. etc) but no backlight on the other modes.

Hello All,

I am new here. I purchased my new XLT FX4 ranger about a month ago. It is in getting a few things worked on. I have a question for the XLT owners. The dealership gave me a loaner Lariat FX4 ranger. I noticed in this loaner truck that the center console has lights for the transmission gear shifter(P,R,N,D,S) and also the selector knob for the 4WD system. Should these lights also be on the XLT ranger? XLT owners, are these illuminated on your truck with the headlights on? I am asking here before I bring it up to the dealer. Thanks for your help!

21 Lariat owner can confirm no lighting for gear shift except on instrument panel. Keep looking down at the black hole!
Hi/lo dial is illuminated but helps to be looking down on it a bit to see clearly since light is dim to me.

HI Folks,

Those of you without illumination of your shifter are experiencing the Material Cost Reduction. I do not agree with many of these MCR actions but it is part of the vehicle game that all of the manufacturers play. The MCR actions were suppositorily not seen by the customer but these forums flag such actions. The whole MCR process was created before the web took off and has been left behind. A new approach is needed to this cost reduction effort. I am too far removed to offer up any solution, but if it were me...the illuminated PRNDS would have never made it to the USA shores in 2019... pretty much useless in my opinion as there was no gear indicator. Focus was determined to be the Instrument Cluster... Any 2021 folks have center tie downs? Another contentious MCR action.

Mine is a 2019 XLT and they gear indicator lights up in the dark
