I love my 2019 Ranger Xlt. 2.3L Ecoboost. 23K miles.
The engine light came on. She is at my local Ford
for service. I have been told the CC needs to be replaced, which should be done today
under warranty. The service advisor told me that, from now on, I should run High Octane
or Ethanol free petrol in her. I am not a mechanic. Maybe, I just need to run / drive her
for longer distances, more often. Does anyone have any constructive
advice on this? Many Thanks.

Horse Patuters.....High Test is not necessary no is ethanol free....these trucks are made to operate on regular and the usual 10% ethanol that at just about all gas stations now. Yes, mid or high test is great, and preferred when the truck is used under heavy load, but for everyday use plain ole regular is OK.
That being said, if your use is only occasionally and very short trips, the system probably is not getting hot enough to burn off any moisture, and short trips are not the best thing for CC.
Ask the service writer to show you where high test and ethanol free fuel is necessary, and ask them if they will cover the added expense for both, if required by the service writer, and NOT the manual !!!

I've run 91 oct Ethanol free since early on as a matter of principle. The manual recommends nothing lower that 87 oct and my milage is 2-3 mpg better, partially offsetting the 60-95¢ higher price.

Y'all's say "Petrol" down there now?

Agree with you. Will definitely get better mileage due to not having 10% ethanol. Mine gets easily 3 mpg more on 91 octane non ethanol.

Then I would show her this page and tell them to give me a properly functioning cat. I run Hi Octane because I have a tune, but Ethanol free would cost a fortune here. People only get it for their power equipment.

It's just very possible your CC had a defect of some kind that led to it's going bad.
Reason I say this is that, personally, I've had many vehicles over the years that had CC, some driven over 100,000 miles, years old, and sold or traded with the OE CC still working.
Also, having been on the forum for almost 3 years, I doubt if there has been a handful, or less, of members having a CC go bad.
Warranty will take care of it, so get it done and resume enjoying your Ranger.

Agree here.

My mom's 2022 Edge had a check engine light for a bad cat at about 10k miles. It was warrantied and has been fine since. Sometimes things are just defective. The good thing is most emissions components have at least an 8 year / 80k federal warranty.

I can't see how premium or regular gas will affect the cat much. That said, I run premium in my Range, but have other vehicles that run regular in my household.
