When I go to a car wash(winter only) I don't use the under spray option. I found it removed all the rustproofing I got applied a few months before.
My undercarriage roller wand isn't that strong and I have that translucent black waxy undercoating stuff that seems to be hanging in there. I think I have to redo it every couple of years (can't find the paper with exactly what it is).

My wand looks like it's blasting away, but it's more like the mist off of a waterfall. if you put your hand a few inches away, it doesn't hurt. I do try to be careful with the diff and tranny breather vents.

LOL, just saw an Amazon comment with someone saying: "it's more of a mist".

Wow, either that was one powerful under spray, or cheap rustproofing.
This was quite a few during the winter. In the spring I was looking under the truck & wondered where all the rustproof oil went. I could be
mistaken & it evaporated ????

Cool contraption. That would be good in summer after doing some
offroad. I have the FX4 but no offroading around here. Not sure
why I bought the FX4, for the gadgets I never use, I guess.

What is the preferred car wash for the Ranger soft wash or touch-free?
Hand wash preferred, touch less otherwise. If you live in a state with muddy, salty, nasty, gritty roads for 9 months of the year, like Maine, ONLY do touchless washes. The brushes at regular car washes will grind all the grit and dirt into your clearcoat and paint, which can cost a lot of money to get professionally buffed.

i use the soft touch for removing caked on salt and brine, or after running through snd/mud. For everyday dust, rainspots etc I get the spray wash. With either, i get the big kahoona ultimate wash with under spray and that gloppy lava shine; $14 for either spray or ST in my area, I have the $40/mo unlimited wash card, and washing both vehicles about weekly, It works out to $5-7 each.
The brushes on most newer carwash systems are made from the same polyester as a hand mitt.

I saw a guy in a local parking lot washing his older chevy truck, with a bucket, in the rain.

What is the preferred car wash for the Ranger soft wash or touch-free?
Optimum No Rinse, Optimum big red sponge, and a big microfiber towel. Takes like 30 minutes and leaves zero scratches. Extra time to hose it off if its muddy.

I just canceled my unlimited car wash membership for 30 bucks a month. I thought it was a pretty good deal until I noticed all the new pinstripes I was getting.
