Did you survive it? I had a couple pipes freeze and one burst. That was lots of fun... I have homeowners insurance so I am not gonna complain much. Lot of people lost their lives to this crazy storm/system.

See the pic below. The temp is me driving in the heart of the cold. Below that is a pic of the sun that same day. That is not glare off the window or camera lense... thats what it actually looked like in the sky. Wicked cool!

I am in Northern IL.

Plenty of wind and snow here. Fortunately the lake effect snow/cloud cover kept the crazy temperatures from happening. We were 5 degrees pretty much for 2 days straight. 20 to 30 mph winds with gusts in the 40’s. We ended up with just over 24” of snow.

I call the CO Front Range home, and was in the immediate firing line for the initial arctic blast..... Picked a good time to visit family ?

I'm in a townhouse with neighbors to the left, right, and directly behind me. I imagine if there was anything internally wrong, my neighbors would've been screaming bloody murder. Outside of a little bit of snow, I imagine I walked away fine

We got the cold an high wind here but not much snow.....a few inches an with the wind it didn't cover the ground evenly. There's spots with very little an some decent drifts. My old farm house seems pretty air tight, this is my first winter here. I'm not looking forward to the gas bill the garage heater didn't kick off for a few days.

It was one of those weeks where I was glad I retired sooner than planned from the post office.

In Iowa we had actual temps in the -12 range and wind chills of -40 to -45. It was a good time. Now it's supposed to be 50 here on Friday. ?

Hi Richard,

Ha ha! I had to go back to the Dermo today for round two of removal of a melanoma that he felt he needed to "dig" deeper. So here in the waiting room were folks in shorts, Tee shirts and sandles. And then a few of us in long pants, sweatshirts and socks and covered shoes. Can you spot the Snow Birds?

78° to day on the patio for grilling....

Best,
Phil

Those are called Sun Dogs. It means it’s damn cold. The sun refracts on the ice crystals in the air. I hope to never see it in person again. Unrelated, it’s nice and 80 degrees in Hawaii. I have my central AC on.

Here in South Louisiana, Friday morning was 17, which is damn cold for us. Plus wind at around 30 mph. I had no frozen pipes or water/power problems, but my heater must have gone on strike from working overtime as it decided to trip a breaker at 3AM. I woke up with 50 deg inside the house. No further problems after I reset it.
And that's a great photo of a Sun Dog.

Not a big deal here, I've dealt with cold before. I have so many thermals and heated gloves, etc. They call it BOMB CYCLONE but I didn't hear any bombs going off it just got cold. I guess snowstorm wasn't scary enough anymore. Still people ignored it and drove around and tried to book flights regardless. We are supposed to get an ARTIC BLAST in a couple weeks before we hit spring and it's a NUCLEAR WARMUP I suppose.

I was only worried about the chickens. Some got frostbite, rooster especially who I brought in the garage a couple times to warm up. Lowest was -5 outside, 5F in the coop. That is with a heat lamp I put in for a couple days, then hardly slept cause I was worried about it causing a fire. No more heat lamp in the coop I don't like em.

I think a special Ranger STX BombCyclone Edition would be cool. Available only in pearl white with pearl white wheels, ARB fridge in the bed, extra powerful air-conditioned seats and a headliner mounted electric fan that blows full blast on the driver at all times.

Science lesson
Bomb cyclone comes from the meteorological term bombogenesis. The term describes the explosive development of the storm ( pressure drop of 24 millibars in 24 hours) and not the destructive force of the storm. The term has been used since the 1940’s and is not a recently devised term to scare people. Of course when a storm reaches bombogenesis bad conditions happen and warrant the warnings.
