All - I'm about to jump into having fun with Forscan (Goodby XM) and few other things. So looking at the OBD2 connectors I can go wired or bluetooth. My question is can I accomplish the same thing with the BT adapter connected to a windows computer as I can with a wired? Are there any issue using the BT over the wired (i.e. dropping connection while updating). Any advice will be very appreciated.

My personal preference is for a wired connection. I have used blue tooth OBD2 readers and they tend to lose connection a bit. A lost connection is one thing when reading codes but it can be bad if trying to write to the computer modules.

Wired is the best way because of what 12Bravo20 said. Chances of a dropped signal with Blue Tooth rise with the amount of time it takes to program ECU. Don't risk bricking your truck due to poor BT signals.

Thank you - I'm sold on the wired version. I had a feeling that would be answer.

On the Forscan website they state it is preferable to use a wired connection. The possibility of bricking your unit with a wireless connection is far greater

wired for sure. now if you just reading data for performance metrics Bluetooth is fine for sure.
