***I thought a lot of you should be aware (if you weren't already) of this huge storm. Hopefully it shifts again but it's been getting worse not better. I'll move it to the Off Topic section once it's over.***

I've been following this storm for a few days (I've always been a weather geek) and it just took a turn for the worse. They were expecting more snow south and now it looks like more ice from all across the central states to the east coast and north east over the weekend. Dallas is like 1 degree away from being in another bad ice storm so hopefully you guys will warm up some. I gave up on local weather years ago and have been following Ryan Hall Y'all who's been much more accurate.

We are expecting accumulations of 1"+ Ice, storm expected on Sat, ending on Monday! The last time this happened in central NC where I live, I lost 20 pine trees that snapped off 10'-15' off the ground. Sounded like shot guns going off throughout night and next day. Power was out for 8 hours.

I am prepared this time around. The trees are gone, and there is a nice Honda EU7000IS Inverter Genset (it is much quieter than my AC units) ready to do its thing when the power drops.

Going out for 18gal of gas just in case...

Luckily, I don't work this weekend. I saw this happening and already prepared myself for a "weekend hibernation". Bought Ice melt a week ago, went shopping last night (gonna make some Hawaiian Portuguese Bean Soup) and I'll probably be binging Netflix and Xbox all weekend.

Stay safe 5G ranger peeps

So in preparation I've been going through all my Terrain modes and I found the Snow mode but there is no longer an Ice mode.

When I first went through them, there initially was an Ice button.

When I clicked it the screen popped up "What are you, stupid?" and the option disappeared.

This looks bad, but it could be worse, this was Russia a few days ago. No, it's not AI, Google it. People were sledding and jumping from their building balconies 😳

You guys in the middle tier states have my sympathy. Your not use to or prepared to handle this.

By me in East Central Wisconsin we are only predicted to have cold (Sub-Zero temps and -30 to maybe -40 degree wind chills) weather. Nothing we don't occasionally experience. Too cold to snow. I being retired will just bundle up, sit by my fireplace and TV. Keep track of how Mother Nature is messing with the rest of the country. Friday is predicted to be the only bad day for us. Kids will probably get the day off from school. After the last couple weeks of January thaw we don't even have enough snow left to make a snowman.

Stay safe and stay warm.
Annies daughter lives in Chicago and they're expecting the same sub zero temps but not quite as bad as you. They had this weekend at -16 for lows and -1 for the highs but luckily it's warmed up some lol and it looks like they'll get some snow on Sunday. There's a second front behind this one bringing in more cold air so this is going to be around for a while. Hopefully the ice isn't as bad as they predict but if it is it's going to be brutal with a lot of power outages and more sub zero weather right behind it.

I hope that band of ice changes course for your sake Morgan. Right now it shows the worst of it going through the center of OK and straight through to Little Rock. I've been reading stores are already out of supplies so hopefully you have a generator. Otherwise....

Just let the birds fend for themselves for a couple days.

Frozen bird feeder.webp
I filled my bird feeders yesterday. Those 4 feeders will last about 10 days. My birds will be cold but happy! Supposed to hit 55F today, but then it starts to get very cold very quickly. For the 10-14 days after Friday we are looking at constant sub freezing temps. Picking up enough gas to run the genset for a prolonged period just in case.
