If I had it my way, they would be in the main cabin every time but I can’t always do that.

I have thought about a canopy or transport them in their actual crate in the bed.

How have you transported your dogs in the past with a pickup?

Medium- large dogs

My dogs have always ridden in the area behind the seats in my current supercab. I'm expecting him to ride in the back seat with my new Ranger, but we will see how that works. Last dog was a 45 lb Aussie, current dog is 60 lb mutt (looks kind of like a small Rottweiler) - about the same size dogs, the current one is just really stocky.

A friend of mine has a 90+ lb mutt and when he goes hiking with us, he rides in his crate in the bed.

I currently have an 2016 F150 but recently confirmed that my kennels fit in the bed of a ranger. In addition they also fit in my wife’s 2017 explorer. The kennels are Rufflandkennels.

I use a topper, and just let them loose back there. I know a kenel is safer but they're siberian huskies and don't take being penned up quietly.

I made a small flat platform for my dog. 2x4 sheet of 1/4” plywood with 2x2’s for a base fit perfectly.

I've just been sitting my dog (a 65 lb mutt) on the rear seat, which has worked pretty well - but your idea is very interesting! I may have to experiment a bit. One thing it won't allow though is to have a person sitting back there with the dog (since the seat is not 60/40).

Just bought seat covers and seat protectors so they can sit in the back seat

Very nice! I've been thinking about creating the same thing for my dog/cargo. Is it easy to take in and out without scratching the interior?

Yes, it’s very easy to get in and out. If you grab it in the front towards the middle you can push it back under the seat a little and then lift it up without the legs hitting the front seats. After that, it’s easy to slide it out of the truck. It’s not like having the flat floor of an F-150 but it gives the dog a stable platform to stand on and also provides a level cargo area. I was really cheap. 1- 2’x4’x1/4” sheet of plywood and 2- 8’ 2”x2”
