Thank you, that's exactly what I did and all seems to be fine now. Any idea what the brown substance is? I assumed it was some sort of sealant. Is it supposed to be there?From your picture, it looks like you have the alternator terminal nut removed. The lug beneath the nut looks corroded. I would remove the lug (after taking the battery negative terminal off to prevent shorting the lead out) and clean it up with Scotch Brite or steel wool and put it back together to improve the connection.
