Think I used the thick one too. The instructions were a bit confusing IMO and I had a second set of hands to help. Tightening the nuts of the grip pieces properly was a huge PITA.

I think I'm good now. Added some shims to remove as much flex as possible in the side rails. The rails aren't completely square, but the cover opens and closes like it should and the issue I was having at the front is now hardly noticeable. Thanks for all the replies and advice.
