I know that the gen 6's (2024+) are all 5' beds, but I'm pretty sure the gen 5's were offered with 6' beds in the Super Cab (extended cab) and 5' beds in the Super Crew with the full back doors and back seats.
Of course I could be mistaking.
You're right the SC has a 6' bed. I should've looked back at your first post to see that's what you were looking at. 🤦‍♂️

No worries, it's kinda hard keeping up with all the changes manufactures keep making, at least for me anyway.
But for my use, I really do not have a need for full size back seats as I don't ever carry more than one passanger. But do carry 8' materials sometimes so I need the extra bed space.

But sadly, it looks like most manufacturers are doing away with the longer beds so I want to grab another one while I'm still able to.

Hi folks!

First post, thanks for allowing me into the group.

So, I'm looking for another mid-size P/U to replace a 2012 Tacoma.

I haven't really kept up with the market until I recently started looking again, and I was shocked to see the number of vehicles that are currently having paint failure issues.
The problem appears to be with several manufacturers makes and models, and Nissan Frontier and Toyota Tacoma seem to be 2 trucks that have high paint failure rates, particularly in white(which I'm not considering).

Anyway, I am considering looking for a used 2023 Ranger XL Super Cab 4X4, preferably in Carbonized Gray if I can find one.

I'm aware of the drivetrain issues with some rangers in this Gen, but honestly, I'm more concerned with having to deal with paint failure than drivetrain issues, as dealers and manufacturers aren't doing squat to cover most paint failures, which can currently cost upward of 12K for a total repaint of one of these trucks from what I've read.

And at least I can buy extended warranty coverage on the Ranger for most issues other than paint, so I'm just trying to cut my losses ahead of time.

Boy, when I bought my Tacoma new 13 years ago (and every other vehicle I've bought since 1979) I never would've thought I'd have to face a delima like this now. So sad that EPA had to get involved with the current paint formulations.

Anyway, sorry for being so long-winded, but would appreciate any input you may have regarding gen5 Ranger paint failure issues.

TIA
The worst common color is white, because the white pigment is titanium dioxide. Unfortunately, titanium doesn't love oxygen as much as iron does, so it's pretty easy for oxygen atoms to jump from the paint to the sheet metal. This is why you'll commonly see rusted out, paint peeling white cars.

The worst colors, period, are bright yellow or bright orange, because these pigments are cadmium oxides, which are even less stable than titanium dioxide.

The most rust-proof colors are black (powdered carbon pigment), and various metal flake colors (powdered metal mixed with tinting pigment in a clear varnish). No oxygen, you see.

From what Ive read here the late '23 models have the updated dru.ms. Hopefully this is true because that's my truck. lol

As far as peeling paint there hasn't been any issues with the body paint peeling. Just keep a good coat of wax on them (preferably 303 Graphene 😜 ) and you'll be good.
If I recall correctly any transmissions after aug 22 build date have the updated drum… pretty sure….🫣

You're right it was 8/22 when they updated them. I knew that because I have a later build '23 and knew it was updated. Sorry my brain has been fried from all the stuff we have going on with our move.🙃

I don’t have a full confirmation.. but so far I’ve found that the date of the update is built after august 15, 2022.. so yeah the august 18th is literally right there on the line 😅 if that’s the correct build sticker reading.
(Full disclosure this is via Google Ai telling me this.)

I also found dates 08/16/2022 and another just saying 12/2022.(we don’t like the December date though 😅.)
