Anderson Powerpole in Back Seat

I connected a switched independent power feed to the back seat console. This allows me to selectively power an Anderson Powerpole connector that I installed in the rear console, replacing one of the USB connectors. I routed the wiring at the same time I wired up my HAM radio. I then disassembled the rear console, performed a tiny bid of filing to one of the USB holes, stuck the Powerpole connectors through and glued them in place with epoxy. I will use this primarily to charge a power station in the back to which a fridge is connected.

To keep HAM/GMRS radios and other, non-permanent, electrically-powered gear protected I mounted a Rigrunner fuse block under the driver’s seat. I fabricated a small tray to mount the fuse block and used the seat-rail cover mount point to attach the tray. First, I had to upgrade the power supply wiring from 14 to 12 gauge and then convert connectors to Andersen Powerpoles. Power comes direct from the battery, bypassing the vehicle fuse block, then into the Rigrunner on a 40 amp fuse. Fuse size on the device circuits are based on demand (Yaesu 100W FT-891 = 25A, Yaesu 50W FT-8900 = 15A). Now the radios can go from house, to truck, to backpack.

As much as I like the Anderson connectors, I will say I'm not much of a fan with the Power Pole Type Connectors. I guess it depends on what you do, but I personally prefer the SB style which is simply a bigger connector but 1 piece instead of 2.

I have that one on order already and will evaluate it when it arrives. I do like the looks of that one and how it protects the connectors. It will probably come down to how well it fits behind the rear console panel.

As for the other two you posted, the round one seems a bit overpriced; I had looked at that one before. The other one doesn't really fit my desire to integrate it into the console.

As much as I like the Anderson connectors, I will say I'm not much of a fan with the Power Pole Type Connectors. I guess it depends on what you do, but I personally prefer the SB style which is simply a bigger connector but 1 piece instead of 2.

I do like the SB style connectors also, I have an SB120 wired up to the front of my Ranger to run external loads, like a compressor, inverter, etc. My compressor peaks at 90 amps, so an SB50 wouldn't work there.

I received a couple of Anderson plug mounts that I had ordered, and changed out what I had previously installed. It now looks like this and works much better.

The new mount allows for the use of regular plugs, or for ones retrofitted with a connector that clips to the mount to prevent accidental disconnects.
