This might be a viable option for a TBC, without the need for tearing apart our trucks: Amazon.com: Autowbrake - Plug and Tow Trailer Mounted Electric Brake Controller: Automotive
I saw a partial review on TFL by Mr. Truck, and he seemed impressed.
Edit: Here is the full review (he uses a 2019 Ranger): Ranger review trailering in Colorado with aftermarket trailer brake controller - YouTube (heads up, you're going to want to FF through alot of the rambling dialog in this video).
Thoughts?

Sounds like a modern, electronic version of the old surge brake systems.
Sounds like a great, simple system, but right now only has a few comments on it.
I am going to do a bit of research on it...may want to give it a try with our planned rv trailer purchase.

Went to their website, watched the video....seems so simple. It is basically a modern electronic version of the old surge brakes we used back in the 50's and 60's.
I'm going to research a bit more, but I'd be willing to try it in a heartbeat.
Beats tearing your interior apart !!!

Spent the last hour studying the Autowbrake, reading testimonials, watching video's, Mr Truck and others. Especially Mr Truck where he does several panic stops, and his towing weighted trailers up to 12,000 lbs.
I'm going to get this unit.....don't need it right now, but it's available on Amazon. We generally get $50-$75 bucks in points so I'll let it build up a bit and get it.

I am going to do the same. I just ordered a new 14' single axle utility trailer with brakes yesterday, and although I don't think I'll ever be towing more than 3500lbs, at max capacity, that's a lot of weight for the little Ranger to stop all on its own in a panic situation.
