Aftermarket 12" screens

Just something else to think about... Having put a double din Android based system in my Audi. The boot up time. I have a backup camera and I've long since backed up without the camera because the stereo was still booting up. It feels like 3 minutes, but it's probably only 1. So all of those controls it replaces are not available when it is off or booting. No heater controls etc. Would I have done it differently?? Absolutely. Also the S/N ratio is horrible as well. So yes it's fancy and looks nice but that's about it.

We installed this type into the Ranger SUV - Everest. The reason was for 360 cameras. But you're right about the boot up time, so annoying. Have to wait for the graphical suv to spin 360's like 2x's and other dumb crap. Meanwhile your trying to get the A/C blasting. I originally was going to put in the truck, but the annoyance of it has turned me off.

The one in my Jeep provides the backup camera basically as soon as you start the car and put it in reverse.

Boot up time for the interface is usually about 1 or 2 seconds, but if the Jeep has been off for several days it can take about 10-15 seconds. Even then the backup camera is available almost instantly.

That said, the one in my Jeep doesn't handle climate controls so that could be where the big disparity is coming from.

that unit isnt that spendy for the hardware....but the skills involved to install it are out of my league and likely my budget.

I've always been a big screen person...like to see as much as possible without scrolling. My standard screen is the only feature on the truck I'm disappointed with...especially when viewing the backup camera. But I've decided to live with this since the 1st rule for safety in backing up is to visually use the eyes and then fall back to the screen. The plus side of this standard screen is that it is crystal clear with excellent resolution. I'm a constant GPS user to find unknown addresses and use for road trips so have a Garmin GPS. It mounts on the windshield, and it can be safely positioned in your line of sight, so you don't have to shift your eyes far off the road. No subscription or data use fees. Have my phone and a mount for it as a backup if the Garmin is ever problematic.

If it is a factory unit I would expect that. It probably has a video bypass. Mine was installed this year 2022 and was suppose to be a top rated unit. And as I said it looks BEAUTIFUL:

Radio was changed from a single din to a double din via a custom leather wrapped piece from Germany and the head unit from Amazon based on features and reviews.

I only mention it because that unit for the Rangers looks beautiful as well, but being Android based it has to boot up with each turn of the key or push of a button as well.

I should have looked further. After a minute or so it does all come together and works great. I do have an issue with my S/N ratio that I'm still trying to figure out if it's dirty power causing it or a ground loop. (A hiss when no music is playing). I went with good quality amp's (Sundown Audio) and a pair of Sundown Audio subs under the top, and 8" Sundown audio speakers in custom door panels, but cheap'd out on the audio feeds. I have some new quad shielded cabling to put in, but it's a chore to do. So my other tip would be don't cheap out on the small stuff either.
