"Tiny or Small" is a relative term and meaning. The Ranger is "smaller" than the currant full size trucks available now. Currant full size pick ups now are "Big".
But if you look at pick ups from the late 90"s and around 2000 you'll find the Ranger is pretty much the same size as a comparable truck from that era...a bit narrower, but length, weight, and capacity are pretty much the same.
Take a 2000 F-150 extended cab with a 6 foot bed and park your Ranger next to it and it will prove it.
Parked next to a late 90's Dodge Ram 2 wheel drive, my Ranger 2 wheel drive is actually higher, and just as long as the Ram. Same goes for the Chebbie and GMCraps.
I see this everytime I park near an older full size truck at Lowes/Home Depot, ect.
Cabin...yeah, smaller than a full size, but just how much "room" do you need ? Wife and I have done 6, 8, 10 hour runs towing our travel trailer with no complaints. Would we be more comfortable sitting 6 inches further away from each other....no !!! Plenty of leg, ceiling, shoulder room, and to me, seats are some of the best I've ever had.
New trucks are insanely large. 90s F series trucks may have had a similar footprint, they did not have any of the crash requirements of the new ones. They are much more cavernous inside. So inside it is fairly cramped by comparison. Just my 2 cents, or $5 factoring in inflation.

Thanks brother. :) I have been looking at the Tundra too but the lack of a factory rear locker is knocking it out of the running. Plus the Toyota tax is real and i'd prefer to avoid it haha.

As for the 10r80 issues i'm planning on getting only a 22 or 23 to negate that.

The 40k fox shock rebuild is new info.
When i get my truck if the shocks need to be rebuilt i might just buy upgrades with like a 2" level kit. Wow that picture is crazy! hahaha. Really shows the difference!
Yeah I am thinking of getting adjustable shocks but I also haven't had complaints with the Fox. I rather do gearing first though but we'll see.

Howdy, I have a 23’ xlt ranger tremor and nearly zero complaints (besides the fact that once you start getting into modding…your wallet starts screaming in pain throughout the night.). Tune wise some will say the FPtune is ok but there are better options available. The fox shocks are neat (personally moving money around so I can move up to the 2.5 performance elite fox shocks.) yes the maint schedule for the shocks is a bit of a bummer.

Also Ranger is turbocharged so you can get a BOV and your truck will make a fun noise… the Ram will unfortunately always sound better in the exhaust category (if that’s important to you.) but you can get a nice little growl out of the 2.3 with the right exhaust. Towing capacity is pretty good for the majority of folks. (You can do a lot with a 7k# towing.) I’m not as tall as you so I can’t comment ?. Way better gas mileage and the truck is fast enough to be fun stock btw.
Also I’m surprised no one has mentioned the best part about owning a 5th gen ranger tremor… this forum ?.
Rebel is a bigger truck with a v8, it’s not the size that counts baby it’s how you use it… ?.
Hope you pick the best option for you honestly you can’t go wrong (as long as you buy the Ranger ?.)
Thank you for helping protect our Freedom good sir.

i dont really have any plans to tow but who knows maybe it will come in handy one day. lol

I'm def gonna budget out funds to have all the fluids and filters changed. Especially with how touchy the 10r80 and the motor is. The fox shock maintenance sounds like too much to deal with over the course of owning the truck so i'm pretty sure they will go away.

I admit i keep going back to look at the Rebel but the crap mpg and the extra cost combined with the size of the truck is a turn off. Just wish ford had used that bulletproof ZF 8 speed trans.

The motor isn't really touchy, the trans certainly can be, the suspension may already need service when you get it depending on use and mileage...

It's about $200/shock and the shipping is about $250 assuming you can get all four in the same box due to weight. You're looking at almost $1k for the service which is cheaper than buying new but it's better if you can snag a used set and rotate them for less downtime.

You can spend more and switch to something else but everything needs to be replaced eventually. Fox is just being a little more honest about use vs service vs performance degradation.

Obviously this is all subjective.... heres my 2 cents as a previous rebel owner and now Tremor owner (I am also about 6'3 190) :

Size: obviously the Rebel is MUCH bigger, whether that is a good thing or a bad thing is up to you. It has all the space in the world for comfort and storage and can fit 87 people inside. BUT that can also make it a real pain in the A to daily drive. While it was awesome having that much space, I am much happier with the Tremor. Its far less cumbersome on a day to day basis and I havent had any regrets about moving down to the mid-size Tremor.

Fuel: The Rebel is a lot of fun to drive, but as you pointed out.... she is a THIRSTY girl. even trying to baby it as much as is did in mine, I was lucky to get 15/16 MPG avg (maybe 17/18 highway). In my Tremor I get 21/22 avg and on the highway I usually get 25 (and have gotten better). The Tremor definitely puts just as much a smile on my face as the Rebel did, they are both fun trucks to drive (note: I use 87 and dont have a tune).

Features: This is where the Rebel is going to win no matter what. Full size vs Mid-size. The Rebel is going to have more available options and equipment. Thats the nature of the truck business, the big boys always get more toys. For me: heated steering wheel, sunroof, power sliding rear window, etc. are all things I gave up to go mid-size. Do I miss those things? sure. Are they necessary to my day to day enjoyment of my truck? No. Are they things that would stop me from buying another Tremor? No. But again, that just me.

Reliability: Time will tell..... some people have good luck with trucks, some people have bad luck. Yes, the trans issue is a known issue on the 5G. Just as known as Rams/Dodges with the Hemi 'tick' and info-sys problems . Every model has its issues but (especcially if youre surfing forums) for every person irate about their *insert issue here*, there are usually 20 that have gone 100k without that issue. As far as the Ranger goes, did it stop me from buying my Tremor? no. But I did visit @Zach@granger for a killer deal on an extended warranty that will cover me long beyond when I plan on getting rid of my truck.

Im happy to answer any questions either way.
For me, it comes down to this: If you put both of them in front of me and told me to pick one (based on my experiences) Id still pick the Ranger.

P.S. I know people keep complaining about the Fox Shocks so I'll add this.... every manufacturer has recommended service intervals. A simple google search will reveal that the avg recommend replacement is 50-80k for vehicle shocks (depending on use and quailty). Most people dont, they drive it till it breaks and then replace it. The upside to a 'performance' parts like the Fox shocks is that you dont need to replace them. they can be refurbished and made good as new again for a fraction of the cost.

P.P.S. Go Army, Sink Navy.

Well damn haha. Looks like you were the ranger owner i was hoping to find. LOL Thanks for all the info and direct comparisons! That really helps.

Was news to me too a few weeks back. Unless Fox does something different with the Ranger shocks. There was a thread or two in here about it. Here is a link I quickly found. At least they can be rebuilt though. There is a company around here that does it mobile I may use. Maybe see what he can do about tuning too.

I'm only 5'7" but man I have been in this loaner F150 for 2 weeks now and can't wait to get my Ranger back. Yes the interior is like a cave but daily driving it in the city is a pain. All of the advantages of the F150 only show on a road trip/towing for me personally.

I do want to say though, I previously had a loaner F150 2.7L and was surprised how good it felt. That in the new Ranger would be awesome. I kinda hope we get the next gen Tremor soon to see what Ford has up its sleeve. This new one they have me in is the hybrid and that 3.5L is pretty beastly in sport mode.

Yeah I would say the Ranger today reminds me more of those 90's F150 size wise. The old mid-size trucks of the 90's are kind of the size of the new Mav. The new Full size trucks are flat our huge though. lol Reminds me of a picture I took actually..... I had to park here this week to meet a client in a loaner F150 and it was such a pain.

haha I actually don't mind those Tundra, they grew on me over time. With the madness of the latest gen Tundra engine issues, they have held pricing to almost MSRP levels for the 2021 M.Y. trucks.

That said, the Ranger looks like a toy car next to them both lol
