So almost was defeated with some horrible passes tonight and then I said...let’s try to figure out what is slowing me down. I’ve been working with a few prototype pieces and one of them I believe was choking it down a lot...by removing one shield I figured out what was costing me a full second. So now that I’m back down in the low 13’s I have some small tweaking to do. I really believe a better intake and/or better flow into the shitty air box will put me into the 12’s. Keep in mind it was 90 degrees and humid as can be tonight. Launching started at 2k and ended about 2500 rpms and that’s about all I think I can get without spinning. Truck felt so nice on the last run...it’s gonna get there very soon!!!

Nice numbers! I'd be happy with a 13.99 with just a tune on my truck. I could go 14.0 at 100 mph in my 97 cobra but never got it to launch hard enough before I sold it to buy a Harley.

Instead of E85, maybe try 110 Octane race fuel and a water/methanol injection setup. The water/meth will significantly lower the intake temps and allow for sustained higher boost and more advanced spark timings.

Adding a K&N or similar drop in filter couldn't hurt if you're still running the paper filter. Also if you're still using the factory airbox with intake snorkle attached you can also look into fabricating an intake scoop similar to this one that @RCMUSTANG made for his. https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/rcmustangs-magnetic-fx4.2048/page-5#post-32094 It would help direct more cooler air into the intake.

I drive the truck 150+ miles per day so the cost of race fuel makes no sense at all. I compared cost of fuel comparing 93 octane tune and e85 tune and it was about $ .20 per gallon difference. I am running a K&N drop in with a velossatech designs prototype ram air setup already.

I was only suggesting running the race fuel at the track not for daily driving. You'd only need about 5-7 gallons if you show up with an 1/8 of a tank. That should be enough to make a few runs and get you to the nearest gas station afterwards.

With E85 it gives you similar gains and performance allowing gains....or so I've read. It's so easy to just hit the pumps and ride....definitely sucks to have to fill up a little more often. A larger tank would be amazing for these trucks.

Then perhaps looking into the water/meth injection, upgrading the ignition coils with Accel or MSD and better plugs? I'm particularly interested in checking out the Pulstar plugs if they have anything for the 2.3L EcoB engine.

I suggested the VT intake last year, put out word that they needed a truck to prototype and I'm still waiting on them to get it made.

E85 is like 100 octane or slightly higher an it's usually cheaper than reg 87. Problem is availability...only 2 stations have it around here....an it's not as efficient so you have to burn much more for the same performance. MY son in laws bother runs it in his mustang with a 5.0 whipple charger...he's running 4 fuel pumps an 95 pound an hour injectors. He also had to install larger fuel lines an go to a return line set up. I doubt he gets 6 miles to the gallon on it but he replaces rear tires every other month or so. he's putting about 800 hp to the ground now an has a goal of a thousand.

To me it only makes sense in a strip only or weekend car. You can get race gas results for about 2 bucks a gallon but you gotta spend a lot to get there.

Hi Langley,

Gasoline is a 14:1 air/fuel ratio. Ethanol has a 8:1 air fuel ratio. So roughly a 20% to 25% reduction in fuel economy for E85. BTW the Indycars used to do Methanol which was worse at 6:1.

Thanks Phil.....all three of my boys are mechanical engineers...all went to Toledo. None are really in the auto industry...one works at a major car seat man by Ann Harbor. MY oldest loves cars but graduated in 09....not a good time to try getting into the auto industry.

The only issue I have with water/meth is that if it is tuned to run with it and the pump or something fails....booooom.

its on my truck...well the prototype. He has the real one made and ready to go but this vivid thing and scheduling conflicts have caused it to be delayed....
