    If you push the + button, you will see a gear selection number highlighted on the dash. Using S mode, push the + button and look to see what gears the transmission is shifting into. Don't press the - button for this test. This will tell you what gears are being used.

    Skipping gears is normal in drive mode. It is programmed to do that. In sport mode, it doesn't skip gears.

    Have you checked the leaf spring to axle U bolts for being tight? Are the brake pad and anti-rattle clips properly installed?

    Try disconnecting the cable to the tailgate and reconnecting it to see if it clears up. Also, check for water or corrosion in the connectors.

    Since you broke the top off of one coil, maybe that is the problem. What code are you getting?

    Did you remove #4 spark plug coil (closest to the firewall)? If so, make sure that the coil pack is correctly snapped onto the spark plug. Since there is piping in the way of that coil pack, it is difficult to get the coil onto the plug properly, causing a misfire.

    Have you checked for hose blockage or a disconnected hose to the EGR DPFE sensor?

    If the alternator isn't charging, check the 125 amp fuse bolted to the battery positive terminal buss work. It might be blown. That is the fuse to the alternator.

    Have the battery and alternator tested, as it sounds like the battery is discharged or bad or the alternator isn't charging.

    Yes, P139C is related to the EGR DPFE sensor. It states that a hose is off or plugged to the sensor. Have you checked for that?

    When you re-assemble the coil pack onto the spark plug, first put a thin layer of silicone dielectric grease on the inside and outside of the boot.

    Well then, that won't work. It would work on a Ranger 2.3L engine that the 5G Rangers have installed.

    Maybe an air leak in the intake piping. Check clamps and fittings for tightness.
