No offense taken... Makes me think of the movie: Robert Kearns takes on the Detroit automakers who he claims stole his idea for the intermittent windshield wiper. in which he looks like a CRAZY person.
I get it... It's not for everybody, But I live in the rainy state of Oregon and all my other cars have this feature and I personally love it. IMO it's kinda like Adaptive Cruise, you don't realize how nice of a feature it is until you've used it. I hear people say sure my car has cruise, But go...
This is a DIY for those interested in a bit of a hack or mod to add this option to your truck. Sharing with the group...
This is a AS-IS DIY project that you will do at your our risk.
I designed a quick 3D cover. You can print this yourself or have someone do it for you. Search for...
You probably already know this. Eaton makes a ELocker for the M220 (32 Spline -Non FX4 vehicles only) . I believe it also requires the purchase of a new RING gear because the factory one is welded on. ARB makes an Air Locker... but the downside is that requires a air compression.
Most Ford F-150 folks (same transmission) which have a transmission temp, I've seen report 10-15 degree cooler temps. Not sure if it's the aluminum or the added capacity... or maybe even wishful thinking. Our Rangers will have no way to verify the effectiveness, but it may be a nice feel good.
Bolt or no bolt, I think the bigger issue is the plastic pan, which is HUGE btw, and has no protection over it, unless you could the tin fold heat covers on the sides :)
I am waiting to hit the mileage to change mine out and am sold on the cast aluminum pan.
Running 275/55-R20's on my 2020 with a canopy and I never average under 20 mpg. I do have a Ford Performance tune as well. My wheel tire combo is nearly identical to the OEM wheel/tire weight (about 72 lbs each), but it drives so much better.
Enabling RainSense requires a few tweaks in Forscan and a new Stalk ($70) and a rain sensor ($35). You have to wire the sensor as well, which isn't hard. 3 wires, power/ground and the sensor wire goes to a wire in the SCCM module (accessed under the steering wheel column cover).
I've always put Premium in any TURBO vehicle. The risk of detonation isn't work the few bucks you save on a fill up. Sadly in the Northwest 92 octane is all we can get, no 93. In California it's 91 octane. 93 seems to be an east thing.
I've had this mod for a while and originally just wired the LOCK/FOLD wire and used the KEY ON to UNLOCK/UNFOLD the mirrors.
Well today I finished the install. I wired the UNLOCK signal wire to the module. In the Ranger is right beneath the LOCK/FOLD wire. Sadly they changed the color of these...
