So I'm looking to order one of these before too long...what is everyone doing to keep their softopper clean? Touchless carwash or handwashing, if anything?
No impossible, but probably not the main contributor here, at least speaking on my personal experience. For myself and the OP, we first encountered the issue after long (600-1000 mile) highway stints. In addition, my daily commute is 22 miles each direction, with ~20 of those miles being highway...
The HPDI pump is driven by a square lobe on the rear end of the intake cam (1 in pic). The pump itself is a spring-loaded diaphragm that rolls on that lobe (2 in pic). The spring-side of the pump is bathed in engine oil with the rest of the cam, the inside of the pump is bathed in fuel at...
Okay, I'll play...
DPMS LR308 (all stock + extractor upgrade + grips)
S&W M&P15 Sport (all stock + grips/rail)
And the newest in the fleet, Marlin 1895 GBL .45-70
Just installed new scopes on the 308 and 45-70, and will hopefully be able to sight in this next weekend if the weather isn't crap.
Get it in to the dealer and have them check it out and document it. They'll likely change the oil and tell you to keep an eye on it before they start replacing parts, but the more of us that bring this in as a concern, the faster Ford will recognize the issue and find a fix. At least that's the...
Honestly, I wouldn't let it bother you. Just check your oil on a regular basis for level and smell (as you should with any vehicle, ha) and enjoy driving your new truck. Odds are that you will not have this issue, but time will tell. I'm still enjoying mine, just being cautious of when the oil...
There's a strong suspicion that the HPDI fuel pump is the culprit, but unfortunately we need a dealer to find it, fix it, and have it documented with Ford before any major action is taken. It also doesn't seem like a coincidence that there are at least 3 of us with the issue whose trucks were...
Interesting...do you know right off hand when your truck was built? Both the OP and myself had trucks built at the end of April. It'd be interesting to see if this is isolated to a few trucks in a select range of dates, or if it's more of a systemic issue.
FWIW I had my truck in to the dealer...
Not sure what generation F150 your wheels/tires came from, but Ranger has a different lug pattern versus the current F150...The Ranger is 6x139mm, and the F150 is 6x135mm (at least the last two gens have been, not sure about before then), so I don't think the wheels will be cross-compatible.
Here's a summary of my Ranger in 2019 from my purchase at the end of June through the end of the year; about 10,000 miles so far. For reference, I've got an XLT FX4 with the optional LT Hankook tires. About 7000 miles is just my typical commuting 25 miles each way to work on the freeway, the...
I don't have ACC to worry about, but I used that location to bolt on a bar I made with some aluminum tabs and remnants of an old cross-bar. Worked pretty well with the light bar going below as well.
My first thought initially was a faulty/fractured injector and/or excessive blow-by, but in my case I would have thought both of those would lead to poor performance of some type. If it was an injector, I'd figure I'd have a rough idle and rough running plus a lot of smoke out of the exhaust...
Mine was right in the middle of the twist. I noticed initially at 7800 miles (4.8k on oil) and I changed the oil. Its back now with 10,200 miles. It's a strong enough smell that even my garage smells like someone spilled fuel on the floor.
We might be getting somewhere, something that might be more important is the build date of the engine (on the sticker on the front of the block). Mine says 23-Apr-2019.
