Your service advisor gave bad info. Your axles and front drive shaft are always rotating. Its just the transfer case that disengages. Using it or not makes no difference on being stuck or gummed up. 4wd for snow covered roads only. I shift back to 2wd once I get going. Even in 8in of snow...
Well 40k later my new updated trans is solid still. If it goes, I hope the fluid lights on fire and its a complete write off. Next vehicle will be older and a manual for sure. Did add the ppe pan 30k into the new trans. Fluid was darker. Going to do 30k fluid swaps with filter swap every...
Simple, narrow an 8.8 our of an f150. Or go for a 9.75 rear end. Cheaper in the long run. Not being a smart ass just giving a real solution. Or buy an f150 but that is a bad answer.
Transmission is heated by coolant. You can by pass it, but it is also cooled by coolant. Double edged sword. Not sure if it is an electric thermostat or not. I know the mustang folks modify that part of it.
I use a paper towel to check the level. Lay the dipstick on it. Pretty obvious to see whats wet. The fluid is thin and hard to be sure of the correct level. Do it for oil too. Just makes it easier
When I did mine I was 3/4 qt over filled. It quickly over heated on a highway run, puked some out and slowly cooled off. It dropped a few gears as well. Sounds too full. Monitor those temps at all times. All those mods deserve gauges.
Mine never last long enough to make a pile. Heck the truck doesn’t even cool off enough for me to work on it when I put on new parts. Says the guy who put a BB turbo on a 7.3 I just drove home with welding gloves… lol
114k bought off the lot with 7 miles 10/21.
2nd trans
3rd set of tires
2nd set of shocks
Front brakes still factory, rears recently done
Battery went a few weeks ago
DPFE at 85k
not too bad to be honest. I use it as a truck 25% of the time too. Towing or hauling something. Otherwise its a...
If it wasn’t for the electric stuff, its probably pretty easy. Not sure if the frames are identical between the two. However too many electrical things
