They didn't have to. They did it as another stream of capital. Our Model Y is $100/yr more to insure than the Ranger. The Y was $10k more, so it makes sense to me.
I thought EV's caught fire all the time, so why would you need a heater?
I'm sure this will cause a meltdown here, pun intended, but our Model Y heats up much quicker than our Ranger in the Winter. :)

Interesting. We replaced a CX-5 with our '23 Model Y. Insurance went up about a $100/yr, after the policy renewed. About the same amount it went up on the Ranger.
Just finished our 3rd trip in 3 years with it, and finally hit 10k miles! Only about 1k of those miles were put on outside of these trips. It's a great road trip vehicle!
