Motor stalls after hours of driving, Code P008A

Hey all! New member here.

Twice now my motor has stalled on me while cruising around through the desert. First time it went into limp mode after stalling 5 or 6 times, but would start back up, with a couple of long cranks to get it going. Kept the rpms up and drove it 75 miles back home. Check engine light was on.

Codes present:
P008A - Low pressure fuel system pressure - too low
P00C6 - Fuel rail pressure too low - engine cranking bank 1
P0217 - Engine coolant over temperature condition

Its a 2022 Ford Ranger Tremor, the battery lasted me 4 years which is unheard of here in AZ. So I thought that may be a good place to start. In case it was sending low voltage to sensors. Swapped in a new battery. Reset codes. Took it out for another desert trip the following week.

Got another stall with the motor. This time it happened when I nearly got stuck in mud, revved the motor up and got that turbo cranking to get me out of the hairy situation. Threw the truck in park to check my lane, and she stalled out on me again. Started right back up.

Truck seems to lack power going up hill climbs just for brief moments. I watch the rpms drop down a bit.

This time it did not throw a check engine light and go into limp mode. And now only one of the 3 codes from before is present:

P008A - Low pressure fuel system pressure - too low

Could this be a weak or failing fuel pump issue? I've made a terrible habit of running the tank close to empty everytime before I fill it back up.

Or could this be a faulty fuel low pressure sensor?

Your issue appears to be a bad in-tank fuel pump.

Can you monitor the low side fuel pressure actual psi (possibly FLP in Forscan parameters)? You are only showing the desired low-pressure psi, not the actual psi feedback.

I was only able to find the FLP_DSD (desired) PID in the Forscan software. Idk why I can't find the actual? I have the latest version of Forscan according to their update. V2.3.71 which was released 2026-05-08 🤔

Is there a way for me to load that PID into the software? I couldn't find it for the life of me.

No, you can't add the PID yourself.

So mechanical gauge pressure test compared to the FLP desired PSI is about all I can do for self diagnosis then huh?

I don't have the pressure gauge yet. Looking at a cheap one on Amazon right now, could be here in 2 days. Hoping it has the proper quick connect fittings.

Any other thoughts?

Its strange to me that the PCM doesn't provide an 'actual' FLP PID, because isn't this the fuel low pressure sensor above the tank right there? One would think that sensor is specifically designed for 'actual' readings for the FLP system.

I believe so? I am still new to navigating my way through Forscan. I simply go to the "Select PID's dialog" window and search for anything Fuel related. I even scanned all the way through the menu without using 'fuel' as a filter keyword.

The low pressure sensor (C4469) connections are also available at C410 connector which I think you can access without removing the tank. Below are wiring diagrams.

That looks correct, I don't know why it isn't available in Forscan.

I am thinking that the sensor is not the issue because your engine actually stalls, probably due to lack of fuel. I would be leaning towards the in-tank fuel pump or the fuel pump driver module.

The pressure sensor is fed with vref (brown/yellow) and sigrtn (grey/violet wire). There is 5 volts DC between them. The FLP connection (brown/blue) would vary between 0 and 5 volts DC depending on the fuel pressure from the tank fuel pump. I don't have any info on the relationship between voltage and fuel pressure. I don't think a bad reading would cause a stall at idle as far as I know.

If you can monitor voltage to the fuel pump motor when the stall occurs, it might give a clue. If the fuel pump voltage appears normal during a stall condition, then the fuel pump is most likely the issue. You would have to check the voltage during engine cranking, if the engine isn't running. If the engine is not running, the fuel pump will only run for a couple of seconds when you first crank the engine and then shut off. If there is no or low voltage to the fuel pump motor, then the fuel pump control module or fuel pump relay or wiring may be bad.

I'm sure you could rent a fuel pressure gauge from any of the 3 parts stores. Harbor Freight sells them, their prices usually are not to far off from Amazon.
