I’m vacationing in St. Augustine Florida with my 22’ Tremor driving on the beach. I’ve done this a number of times, after getting the truck back from valet (can’t park on the street or at the hotel itself, business ransom man) and attempting to back into a parking spot, a wrench light instantly popped up stating “see owners manual”. No reverse, engine would just rev like it was in neutral, shut the truck off and started it again and reverse came back. Haven’t been able to reproduce the problem thus far.
I’ll be scanning the truck for codes here in a few. Has anyone else had a similar situation to this and if so, what was the cause / issue at the heart of it.
FYSA: I checked up underneath the truck, no visible sand on any of the transmission components associated to the shift linkage.

When it comes to scanning for the codes... Do not use a generic, low-cost OBD-II scanner. Generic readers only scan the Engine Control Module (ECM) for emissions-related codes. You must use FORScan or a professional-grade diagnostic tool to pull codes directly from the TCM.

You are searching for stored or pending transmission codes. Pay close attention to...
  • P0751 / P0756 / P0761 / P0766: Solenoid performance or stuck-off codes.
  • P0730 / P0729: Incorrect gear ratio codes (indicating internal clutch slippage).
  • P2700 through P2704: Transmission Friction Element Apply Time faults (telltale sign of fluid pressure loss or CDF drum failure).

I had the exact same thing happen with my 21 a few months ago. Took it to the dealer to get checked out. They did a pressure test etc. Everything checked out 100%. Had them change out the original battery which was getting weak. No problem since. I'm convinced it was a voltage issue.

Hopefully it’s nothing! I hate taking it to the dealership, they always try to play games

Could just be one of those gremlins that popped up. My truck did this once a while back after getting the transmission fluid & filter changed. Never got a check engine light though. I put it in neutral, waited a second, then shifted back to reverse and it was fine. Only happened the one time.

All newer vehicles are basically computers with wheels. You’re bound to get odd little glitches and hiccups every now and then. If it’s something that happens more than once and is repeatable, then I’d be worried about it. If it only happens once and nothing else seems wrong, I wouldn’t be too concerned. That’s just me, can’t speak for anyone else. 🤷‍♂️

If it’s a one time occurrence, you’ll be fine. But if it continues then you will have to get it checked out.

I agree, no check engine light came on but it wouldn’t reset like yours did after neutral. If it happens again it will for sure be going to the dealer.
