Because you have to use it to keep it loose. Take it out and run the wheels off it. Blue Creeper would also loosen it.

It was a bear , fought to the last 1/4 inch and it was all i could do to turn that pipe wrench ... that's a 7/8's bolt so its stout but it bottomed out twice and I had to back it out and and put some sockets in there to take up.the space... MY OLD ASS IS TIRED! I'm going after a celebratory 6 pack and soak in the hot tub ...

The 7/8 bolt didn't seize in there, did it? Be sure you put that 10mm socket away first before Miller Time.

Miller Time !!! I figured after turning a 5 minute job into a 24 hour job, Bud Light would be the beer of choice 🤔 😆.

So im back down in my happy place and im looking at the wheel and axle to see how rusted and crappy they were (i didn't check a damn thing last nite, once it finally came off, I headed for the door...) anyway, the wheel hub on the inside looks fine and the outside of the axle looks fine, no rust or pits, no wear grooves or any signs where or WHY it was stuck... not what I expected, and im wondering how much work I gotta do to reverse this procedure to get it back on without beating it up and breaking something inside (brass in there)
The damn wheel slides on and off now like nothing was ever wrong... slides right up to and now BEYOND the roll pin holes, spins, turns freely and everything and all i did was wipe it with a paper towel...
It seems IMPOSSIBLE to me that it will now go right back on the axle, and even FURTHER than it did before with zero effort... wt actual f ...

Could always drill out the center of the wheel a bit more and put a bushing or bearing in it if it gives you that much trouble again when putting it back on.

no thanks
I’m tired just reading this post…..

I put in a half-azzed effort taking a wheel off my 20yo snowmower and gave up….

maybe if i hadn’t put my beer muscles on before, instead of after like you did, i might have faired better

thanks for the tip

All of that mess just to get to this $5 axle seal... and some antiseize for the next guy that needs to get it off...
20260309_151259.webp

So I get it back together and need to refill the gear box, the manual CLEARLY STATES gl4 only , 85 or 90 or 140 but NO GL5 because there is a brass worm gear in there and GL5 has Sulphur which is bad for brass ... went to 5 places and then gave up and had to Amazon some, everything is gl5 now and nobody has any on the shelf...
And the funny part is I have absolutely NO USE for this big ass tiller and im not even sure what to do with it now that its running or why tf i even offered to take it...
