No snow this weekend in Central Va. near Charlottesville. But still freakin' cold and blustery winds today. Looking forward to a mild warming trend next week.
How's your finger doing?

Hopefully it's not broke and you can still use it:question:🖕

You can collect them without a permit and drop-off at locations to feed ethnic groups that eat them.

Cleared the 100' concrete driveway today. We actually used snow shovels. The last 25' is 28' wide! Took all of 45 minutes - 6" but very light. Started at 10AM (19F). By noon the driveway was dry! Wife and I work hard! Gets the blood flowing.

“Yes, it has snowed in Miami, Florida
. The only official, recorded snowfall in Miami's history occurred on January 19, 1977, when a rare arctic airmass brought light snow flurries to the area, including as far south as Homestead and the sandy shores of Miami Beach. The snow melted quickly, but it was a historic event. “

Kids today get a day off for a couple of flurries while we walked in blizzard conditions, up hill both ways. 😜 Busses got us home safely and then there were those bus drivers who were a little more fun to drive with. o_O

Oh, how I miss the 80's!

Oh, how I miss the 80's!
Growing up in Pa in the 50’s and 60’s, I remember looking out the window when the snow was so deep on the road out front that the state plow truck would come through and the school bus was right behind it with tire chains on and the traction tanks full. The term “snow day” meant go out and play in the snow in the school yard at recess time. We were the last four kids on the end of the run and just before the end of the run, there was a small bridge over a creek that had like a speed bump from older repairs. All four of us would go to the very back seat and ole Bob would hit the bump about 45 mph and being the serious overhang behind the rear axle on the bus, the bump would toss us in the air, ah, the good old days. Imagine if a driver did that now. Oh, and then there were the hair pulling girl fights. But that’s another story.

I missed it!

(HELL DOES FREEZE OVER! I have since checked the details. The high for that day was 47F and the overnight low was 20F! Yikes! Apparently nothing stuck, it melted as it fell and was mixed with rain.)

I left in May 1976 for the USAF, where I saw plenty of snow in Colorado! The late 70's was an extremely cold period for the entire country. The press and scientists were heralding the beginning of a new ice age. NY state was gonna be covered by an ice sheet! We had a severe white out blizzard that dumped enormous amounts of snow in Colorado my 2nd year there.

I remember driving home to Colorado Springs from SC in March of 1977, seeing 30' tall snow drifts in eastern Colorado, and massive herds of frozen cattle! Curiously, the nearby buffalo herd survived.

I remember seeing men on the roofs of their homes reaching up with shovels breaking up the snow above them, thew shovel not even reaching the top of the snow drift, fearing the roof of the house would collapse. When I reached Petersen AFB (at the time it was east of Colorado Springs in the prairie) my fellow airmen told me harrowing stories about how they were in a white out conditions while driving on highway 24 east trying to reach their barracks, and had abandon their cars on Highway 24 and walk over a mile in those blinding whiteout conditions, barely making it safely back to the base.

I remember a story of seasoned wrecker crew trying to reach those stranded in snow drifts, only to be found frozen to death in snow drifts when help finally arrived.

I also remember several USAF Cadets trying to make if home going through western Kansas and never making it. If my memories serves me, there were 2 of them traveling together. This occurred in 1983 I think.

The colder climate back then affected large parts of the USA.

Our bus driver knew which ones would get us some air and she also would hit them just right.
Good days!

I didn't have to take the bus much because I had 2 schools (1-3/7-8) within walking distance. I only had to take it for grades 4-6 and once I was in high school I had a lot of older friends who I'f catch a ride with most days. But we rarely had any school cancellations from snow unless it was going to be a Nor'Easter.

It's much better. Still can't use it, but if it's broken it's starting to heal. Gemini told me as long as I still have feeling in it, and it's not deformed, probably don't need to see a Dr. Not much they could do anyway. Thanks for asking. Did I mention it hurt like hell?
