I delivered many a news paper on one of those. Mine was not near that fancy, just bare bone Firestone brand, but it got the job done. And it didn't take much change to get those soft drinks. 10 cents would buy one. They were usually 12.5 oz not 20 like today. It is no coincidence that none of those kids have an ounce of fat on them, unlike today. Before the paper routt, spending money usually came from riding along the road picking up empty bottles and turning them in for the "core charge" .

Yup, no fat on them because they (we) were outside playing or doing something other than sitting on the phone or playing video games. We would be gone just after breakfast until dinner time just messing in the woods out behind our house.

Just look at the movies from our generation and even into the early 2000's. People for the most part were somewhat fit/in shape. Sure there are a couple people that were overweight but not obese like in today's shows. Even most of the commercials now are disgusting to watch. Seen the one for that "all over" body deodorant from pits to privates? 🤢 More proof the food we're eating is not good for you.

We were talking to a lady the other day that we know in our neighborhood. She just got back from a 3 week cruise and Annie said "oh, you must of had a great time"? First thing she said was "it was the last one I'm going on and couldn't wait to get off. All's people did was stuff their faces with food, I've never seen so many obese people in all my life". lol

You're right that's the problem though just look at (most, not all) the parents and you can see the apple doesn't fall far from the tree! Many are just as bad if not worse than their kids now. Man, when we went out somewhere and started acting up all my mom or dad had to do was give me that look and we stopped dead in our tracks! 🤨 My mom is Italian and while she's the nicest person you'll ever meet she won't take any crap either. lol I always knew when she was serious because out came the wooden spoon. As much as we hated it back then and thought they were the meanest people they shaped us into who we are today and I'm grateful for it! Looking back I wouldn't have wanted it any other way.
I would not be where I am without all the fly swatters, belts, lilac bush switches, and others. And the sad part is that I am the oldest of six kids and the last few years of her life, she had no clue who I was.

On a storm / blizzard note, I finally took the Ranger to Mega Auto Spa today to blast off all the salt and seagull crap from where the idiots sit on the ferry dock and feed bread to those flying rats. And then they fly all around right over my truck and all you hear is SPLAT…. 🤬 Bread has no nutritional value to the birds or us but they’re too stupid to know any better.
So the Ranger positives today were she got clean and I got to baby sit this hairy puff ball who came to see the big girl today. Anyone want to take a guess what she is?

Okay guys. Update on the weather situation here in North Texas. It's gotten warm enough things are starting to melt and thaw out. Unfortunately I didn't have running water for a couple of days. A water valve that was previously used for the ice maker in the back of the refrigerator broke and I ended up with water in part of the floor on the East side of the house, which is about 30 years old according to my Mom. I had to call in an assist from my Uncle Roy and some of my cousins from out of town to stop the leak and help me dry the water from the floor. Mom had a plumber come out here yesterday and he got it fixed so that I have running water again. I'll take some more pictures and post them on here as I can, ya'll know how hit and miss the cell phone service is out here lol.
Everybody take care.

Hang in there. We had a local water main break yesterday. No water for several hours. But they worked into the dark hours and got it going again. We had already anticipated the loss of water and filled multiple tupperware, growlers, bottles etc., so it was a minor inconvenience.

I have fond memories of life growing up in Ohio. I lived on the largest man-made lake in the U.S. When the lake froze over, I could take a short cut on my moped across the ice to where my paper route was. Parents had no clue and were kinda pissed when they found out later in life.

She belongs to Tommy at Alton’s Keep Wildbird Rescue and Rehabilitation Center in Suffolk which is where I take all the eagles and owls I rescue for rehab.
She is only a year old now..

She is a Bouvier des Flandres, a large shaggy Belgian herding dog known for its rugged appearance, including a distinctive beard and mustache, and its history as a versatile farm and working dog. Originally used for herding cattle and pulling carts, they are now popular as family companions, guard dogs, and in police and search and rescue work due to their intelligence, loyalty, and protective nature. They require consistent training and significant physical and mental exercise to manage their independent spirit and working drive.

Bouviers des Flandres can be excellent family dogs, known for being loyal, affectionate, and good with children and their families, but they require experienced owners due to their intelligence, protective nature, high energy, and grooming needs, thriving best in active homes with strong leadership and proper training from puppyhood.
She will look like this.

I can't seem to say this enough, but being a member of this forum and this Family. Thank you. Ya'll have helped me to keep my sanity and remain calm in certain situations, where in the past I would have panicked a little. Because I am not used to this type of weather like so many of you are.

Both the houses I built back east were on a well. When bad storms were predicted I would always fill a bathtub with water so I could at least flush the toilets and it's a good habit to get into now with many areas having older pipes. I also put the main water line from the well to the house in a pvc pipe. That way if something were to happen they could (hopefully) pull wires or new pipe through it and not have to dig up the yard. My second house had a whole house generator so that mostly took care of the water worries but I'd still fill the tub during bad Nor"easters.

There's a lot of helpful people here and very knowledgable too. One thing about life is you're never too old to learn something. One key thing about bad weather, any bad weather is just drive slow and always look around because it's usually someone else that's doing something dumb. Things can go bad fast in the winter and the roads can turn to ice very fast and no 4wd is going to help you on ice.

Beautiful dog. And I wouldn't want to meet her on her turf uninvited.

My urologist told me years ago, when I was having severe kidney stone issues, that one or two beers a day are good to help reduce the formation of the stones. I said “got that covered doc”.
You need to keep that urologist he's a good one! Many years ago when I was at university we had a biochemistry lecturer, a bit of a rough diamond who had risen from poor working class origins to a PhD in clinical biochemistry, and later a pioneer in molecular genetics education. One of his favourite lines was on the subject of drinks - "There are no carcinogens in beer" I loved that guy, behind the gruff exterior was an incredibly kindhearted academic, always happy to help a student who was struggling. He also attended a few of our student parties - and he really could drink.
