Ice is going to be bad with some areas reaching over 1.5" of ice.

From another source:

UPGRADED ICE ACCUMULATION!

Multiple NWS offices have increased ice forecasts as confidence grows in catastrophic, long-lasting impacts.

According to this map a huge chunk of the ice right over Fannin County, Grayson County and Lamar County.
Gonna stop on the way home and top it off with 89, then stop by Braums and make a grab and go for supper, then head for home.

Good luck Robert. We use to go to Binghampton every fall for the AMA outdoor nationals. It's a beautiful area but I wouldn't want to live through your winters! 🥶

Of course your boss will expect you in the next day. lol

Wow, we were pretty close by when I lived in AR. I was just to the right of your arrow across the state line on the MO border. Hopefully this doesn't keep tracking north but so far that's been its trajectory.

a few years ago we got 41 Inches in a 24 hour span, that was fun, but I have lived up by Watertown and Buffalo and been through some 8 foot storms at -50F 20 inches is a fun weekend :)
Scooby was 29" at the base of his neck!

***I thought a lot of you should be aware (if you weren't already) of this huge storm. Hopefully it shifts again but it's been getting worse not better. I'll move it to the Off Topic section once it's over.***

I've been following this storm for a few days (I've always been a weather geek) and it just took a turn for the worse. They were expecting more snow south and now it looks like more ice from all across the central states to the east coast and north east over the weekend. Dallas is like 1 degree away from being in another bad ice storm so hopefully you guys will warm up some. I gave up on local weather years ago and have been following Ryan Hall Y'all who's been much more accurate.

Send it out West! My place at 7200' in Tahoe hasn't seen snow in awhile now after a big start, need good ski base! Also good luck to y'all

That's crazy! I use to see all the weather up your way and up in Buffalo on how much and how fast the lake effect snow can accumulate. I use to love the snow and have skied, played hockey and snowmobiled. I was up around the mid 2000's when I was 40's I started hating the cold and while I didn't mind the snow it was a chore taking care of my driveway (250") every winter when I was working 6-7 days a week. As we say here in AZ.... :tumbleweed: :sun:

I love watching how storms form and how fast they can change. we'll be getting rain here later Friday and all day Saturday from this but this map shows how it's starting to take shape. The energy and Low is Right there off California about to hit Mexico. The winter part of it is happening because the system will merge with the Polar Energy which is still north of Alberta about to descend into the US.

My wife grew up just east of there south of Corning on a 250 acre farm, 1 mile from the NY / PA line.

Her parents moved to Pulaski, NY, about 50 miles north of Syracuse 2 miles from the lake. They get massive amounts of lake effect snow this time of year. They had a cabin 20 miles east that would routinely see 15' of snow. They'd have to hike in a mile or so, and only the top of the roof wouldbe above the snow. They'd dig down to get to the door!

Not for this South Florida boy!

BTW, I did get my generator oil changed, and purchased and installed a battery for it. Fired right up. The genset had not been fired up in 5 years! I pulled cranked it the first time. Didn't feel like going though that again when the rain is falling, then freezing.

Now that I'm ready for the big show it won't happen...

And that little AGM "motorcycle battery" cost me $118. Wow! Prices have gone up. Between the oil change and battery I'm out $150 today. It better ice up...

I forgot where is he again?

One of the biggest problems is if the grid goes down for a long period of time is there's no fuel because gas stations are all closed and the pumps won't run. It's great if your Gen runs on NG but many are gas or LP which is hard to store large quantities of. The house we built in AR had a transfer switch all set up to run the whole house but I was limited to a 500 gallon LP underground tank. There were only a few companies who delivered and when you have a storm this large they can't get to everyone to top them off. I'm sure it would've been enough for about a week or two running the Gen 24/7 plus we had the wood stove but many others aren't prepared and or don't have the funds to do it. I always said if I had a choice I'd rather be without electricity in the summer because it's easier to survive that then in the sub zero temps where you have to worry about your pipes bursting too.
