Looks good Phil! Any close ups on how you made the ends and attached them?
Hi Adam

Here are pix of the brackets up close... I start with a crude drawing for my lathe work..Then go the determining the need reinforcement at the pickup box latch pin and then the tailgate latch pin. A bit of welding, and I am so out of practice welding...UG! :(

Thanks! If I ever find some free time I hope to do something similar.

Bummer about the asshole driver.

Glad you got away with just a flat though. And on the factory Bridgestone Duelers, so no big loss. ;)

What's their purpose Phil?
Hi John,

I will be using these for times when I haul sheet goods like 4x8 drywall or plywood. Make sense?

best,

If it does make sense for you, that's all that matters.
Why not just drape it over the tailgate when closed? One way or another, the sheet rock, (especially), would be arced.

It is an interesting idea - from just looking at the angle, it looks like it would be a similar angle to what I had when I laid plywood on my tailgate extender. The only downside to that is that you don't have full contact - you only have the two "posts" as contact for the sheet goods. Phil's idea would support the entire width of the sheet, lessening bowing side to side.

A trick most contractors use: you place 2 2x4s underneath sheet goods to prevent the arcing/bowing.

I'm feeling a bit dense this morning (and I haven't even had any turkey or beer yet!) - I get the idea, but not sure what would they rest the 2x4s on? Do they go the whole width? Or on end under the sheets? Or do you put one sheet in and put the 2x4s on top of it?

I'm just having a hard time visualizing how it would work.
