Thanks for detailed reply airline tech.

Truck isn't higher on either side. There aren't any unusual noises, and hubs are same temp are a decent drive with lots of corners.

I did notice during a 5 hour drive yesterday - issue was present initially while car and road was bone dry, we drove into heavy rain and after a while I realized I couldn't notice the issue anymore, even during end part of the drive after road had dried out. No doubt it will return once car and steering components have dried out but I'll keep an eye on it

So it could be that something in the steering system is binding, it rained and brought the oils in the road (to the surface) Less resistance on the tires as you make inputs.

The OEM vs Ballpoints & Outer Tie Rod Ends - do not have grease fittings (sealed)
So sealed and getting them wet (would not make a noted difference) unless the boot is torn

Sitting still - you should be able to take your index finger and slowly turn Left/Right) and not feel any resistance (binding)

US Version rangers - do not have a PS Pump, its electric driven shaft with Touque Sensors, so if one of the Torque Sensors is bad - may be the cause of the binding.
Or a dry Balljoint or Outer Tie Rod End - if you have fittings on those - Lube Them

There are 2 things that could get wet (rainwater) that come to mind, that could possibly get better when wet.

Since this is a noted (In a turn & body roll) I have some suspect things, you could spray some lube on, just to see if a noted difference.

1. The Stabilizer Links - In a turn the link (attach point) pivots on a ball it may be binding and when it got wet (it freed it up some)
Spray some lune on this- and see if noted change.

Edit:

If you turn the steering wheel to the (Right) in this pic - the stabilizer link will pivot outwards towards the tire (it pivots on a small ball) - if this is dirty / corroded it may be binding up and affecting the steering wheel return (holding the knuckle) from freely returning to center.

If spraying lube for pinpoint T-Shoot helps, suggest replacing as the ball (end) is worn and issue will most likely return.

2. Lower Steering Shaft (Coupling), you may try spraying some lube on this (Joint) as well and see if noted change.

Thanks all. The dealership has diagnosed it and are going to replace some sort of "steering gear". Thanks for your help!

I had exactly this symptom – on a gentle and continuous steer to the right, the wheel would not recentre. It felt like there was something sticky holding it.

An MOT check found a broken spring. Fixing that also cured the steering problem.
