So I finally got around to detailing my Ranger (after many delays due to "insert excuse here") and it came out great. Had some water spots on the roof and some light scratches/swirl marks on the hood. Used Adams Swirl and Scratch remover https://adamspolishes.com/products/adams-scratch-swirl-remover and it worked great. So I figured I'd give it a try on the door sill plates as they have some light scratches. Bad idea . Whatever the coating/paint is, it started to come off and discolored the plate (only did drivers side). Kinda hard to capture it in pics being so reflective but here is what I could capture.

So if you have these sill covers, just use a mild cleaner lol.

I priced a new set from Levittown and they're already on their way. Not bad price wise, $75 for the set. both sides were scratched up so I don't mind replacing both. When I get them I'll snag some scrap PPF from work and apply that before installing the new ones on Squidward.

Luckly my Ranger doesn't have those pretty chrome plates, but to stop the scratching i bought a roll of 6" wide fake carbon fiber vinyl and put it on the step plate to keep it clean and scratch free.

you talking about these guys? let me know how the removal goes. ive never really cared for the look of mine and have considered removing them, but was concerned it might damage the paint underneath

I "assume" it should be fairly simple. A little heat gun action and a plastic trim tool should do the trick. I'll document my process though for removal and install. :like:
