I have a 2021 Ranger XLT supercrew Fx4. I bought the truck used last year and it had some cheap tires on it from the dealership. I went to the tire shop, and they put on the Cooper Discovery 10 ply tires (265/70/r17). I really liked the way they looked, and it make the truck sit a little higher. However, the ride was not as pleasant as the looks. You could feel every bump and it drove like a tank. I had them at 35psi. I took them back months later and was offered some Pathfinder A/T (265/70/r17) 4 Ply tires at no charge (Pathfinder is made by Kumho Tire). I was very hesitant on getting them, but after a nine-hour trip on the Coopers, I was ready for something different. I looked at the reviews and did my research on using them with the Ranger and did not see any red flags (for what I use the truck for). Did I make the wrong move? The truck drives much better and it is a lot smoother. It's totally different than what it used to be. I just want to make sure that I can still use the truck, as a truck. I don't off road, I don't tow stuff that much. I just like having a truck. Sometimes I'll throw 800 lbs. of rock in the back when I'm doing a project around the house but, that's about it. Sorry for the long story and thanks for the replies.

First off you don't need an All Terrain of any sort since you don't go OffRoad what so ever(and don't plan to). Then again I also question the FX4 since you plan to stay on the street.

For the Tires there is nothing wrong with having a set of P Rated Tires, but I would stick to something more street rated like the Firestone Destination LE3 or the Michelin LTX M&S.

LT tires are really for F150 (1/2 ton trucks and heavier). The harsh ride was because of the 10 ply sidewall which is way too stiff for the Ranger and other mid-size vehicles. If you liked the Cooper and it came in the P sizes it would have given you ride you were after. The tire shop should have known that, too. If you did go with an all terrain tire then maybe a little off road exploring is in order. Never know, might fight find a new hobby!

IMO humbly i might add, Cooper tires suck. They used to be good, if I'm not mistaken got bought out by Firestone. We'll there you go.

Cooper is not owned by Bridgestone/Firestone. If they did get bought, it was by a different company

I beg to differ. =p

If you have a chain hanging off the front, you need AT tires. Even if you're only a two-wheel drive and don't have a locker.

If you eat, breathe, and dream dump runs - you must have ATs! =D

So Nokia Outpost nAT for me when I get new tires (lol, that may be in 10 years since I only have 9K miles on the '22 Soupie).

Why?

For the same reason people need wheel spacers and all the stuff that make us enjoy our trucks (not including the mandatory damper for those of us whose trucks are massive babe magnets, or the mandatory use of 303 products). =p

Of course, if this one was a good enough tire to win WWII, then maybe it's what we all should run! =)

Rough ride is one thing, LT's are are also hard on shocks and suspension. If you're feeling that harsh ride just imagine the added activity on your shocks! Play with the tire pressure.....lower it as much as you dare but keep a CLOSE eye on uneven tread wear. Raise the pressure a bit if needed.

Did you make the wrong tire choice? You do you. If your truck looks/is running/feels like you want, then you didn't make the wrong choice.

well if they suck it might be a result of Goodyear owning them. Goodyear makes some good tires but lots and lots of mediocre ones.
