Been messing with this off and on this year. I purchased a used 10.1" Lincoln Aviator display from LKQ. I ordered a longer coaxial cable from the dealership because the factory one is too short. I modified a Metra 108-FD9B dash kit for the bezel. This kit won't work with the factory FCIM due to the integrated nature of hazard switch. I got a non-Sync Ranger hazard switch and pigtail. Haven't got around to figuring out how to mount it yet.

Hell Yeah !!!

If they don't have what you want,,, make your own ! That's why I'm always cutting & drilling my own light brackets. Nobody offers exactly what I want.

I hated the Sync3 system so I replaced it with the Linkswell. The entire driving experience is so much nicer now.

Thats AWESOME! Did you lose any of the control functions that were available on the stock head unit?

Dude yes! I have been thinking about trying the same thing but I'm happy to see someone did the hard work. Was it plug and play? Do you know the part number for the 10" display?

No functions were lost. Everything is factory Ford, including the display. This is just a display upgrade. I did have to edit some APIM things in Forscan to get the new larger screen to display properly. That's why the colors on the home screen look like it's from a Lincoln.

Any Lincoln 10.1" display will work. 2020-2024 Aviators and that same era Navigators. Just make sure the coaxial socket is yellow. Salvage or Ebay is your best bet. You will have to grab a VIN off of a Lincoln Aviator to get the longer coax cable. Your Ford dealer needs a VIN to order them. VINs are listed on used car websites.

In hindsight, I would not have bothered with this. I was too deep to stop. This is not for the faint of heart. Everything works factory, and I like the looks, but at this point the Maestro/Kenwood direct replacement radios would have been a lot less work.

Copy that! Maybe I'll go the Maestro route instead.... Thanks for the info.

OP gets my respect for the ambitious project. Making it look factory is quite the achievement.

I see Crutchfield sells a 'bolt in' 10 inch 'floating' screen. It retails for about $1800 by itself - you'll need the data interface adaptor. I'd be curious what it looks like in person.

Thank you! Yes, that is the Maestro/Kenwood system I was referring to.

Fitting the display had a lot of unique challenges. It is much larger that what is seen through the bezel. The FCIM and HVAC registers were modified (hence the missing hazard switch). I had to cut part of the pcb off of the FCIM to get the bezel and display to fit. Obviously not completely finished yet. I have to mount the hazard switch, and would really like to paint the FCIM face and bezel the factory "Black Alley" color.

Total cost to save the factory APIM and ACM also included a PAC AmpPRO FD-31. I replaced the factory B&O system with JL hardware. I really wanted to save the factory Navigation as a back-up to Android Auto.

For $1800,,, I'd go with the Linkswell Gen6 and have the full screen. Everything you need for installation comes in the box. 3 hour install by an inexperienced amateur. But, I could do it in ½ that time now that I know how it's done. It's noticeably bigger than new ones Ford is using in the current Rangers.
