If anyone wants a nice 2020 FX2, set up to tow, it will be at Landers McLarty Ford in Fort Payne Alabama, probably next week.

Sadly, I won't have time to pull the Clearviews off of it, I was going to sell them for cheap to someone here, but I work the next 3 days, so no time.

Someone will be getting 4 corner Bilsteins, Sumo Springs, a PPE Trans Pan and a Fitzstick along with the Clearviews.

Ford finally sent me enough offers that I couldn't resist upgrading to a PowerBoost F150 with the 7.2kw Pro Power Onboard. Supposed to be delivered on Friday.

I'm sorta sad to see the Ranger go. It has been a fantastic truck and has punched well above its weight.

And yes, the 10R80 will be getting Lubegard, and an aluminum pan, and regular changes. I have no faith that just because it is a 2025 that it is 'fixed'.

Yep, 570 lb/ft and 420hp at full go. Plus the ability to power a camper (or two) from the onboard power.

Only thing I hate is Ford forces you into a 4x4 with the powertrain. Other than that and the chrome wheels it is exactly how I would have built one.

Is the tow cap still around 11,500 with the hybrid? I wonder if the gas mileage is a huge improvement over the standard ICE’s in real world use…. (I always thought Prius was lame? I still kinda do, but I did own one for a couple years.. just felt like a weenie driving it… like I had to wear a cardigan sweater with some overly priced glasses while drinking a latte through a paper straw? just to drive it.… but I saved a lot of money when it came to gas and that wasn’t lame.)

With Max Tow, yes, mine is not, but it is still 10500. Payload is 1600, which is actually less than my Ranger, go figure.

As for fuel, it will probably do a little better than the Ranger on my daily drive, but will probably be about the same 10-11mpg when towing. Physics is a cruel mistress. Plus the added drag of 4WD...hate you can't get a RWD in the Hybrid now.

--Edit--

I just looked, payload is 1699#, the Ranger was 1711#

Well I hope it reliably gets you though your travels and exceeds your expectations.. 10k towing is nothing to sneeze at, payload is a bit of a bummer though… but I don’t really like loading the bed up anyway… that’s where the dirt bikes go ?…
No you gotta find reasons to use the 4x4 ?.

you’ve got me interested in this power boost f150… (preparing to enter rabbit hole.)

Lol, if you're towing a travel trailer, and in the market for a new truck, IMO it is the only way to fly. Although, I have plenty of solar now, enough that I can run the AC at full go for about 4-5 hours with some sun, with the truck I could run forever.

Lol, yea, that package is a bit dumb.

Bucket Seats - Ok, those are nice to have
120v outlet in the dash - The whole truck is an inverter, so having it on the dash is nice, but there would be one behind the seats anyways
Flip down laptop stand - Meh
and a lockable storage in the back - I'll reserve judgement till I see/use it

I'm a bit of a believer in working new vehicles hard right out of the gate. This will the be first one I've worked THIS hard though. 200 and some change on the clock, hook up the camper and LETS GO!!! for the weekend.

A few observations.

It is REALLY weird when the thing is in full electric mode. Driving a silent truck with no engine noise is just odd.

The powertrain really isn't what you expect. It is sneaky strong. It is not like any turbo you've ever driven, especially with one with these power ratings. It doesn't 'feel' as fast, but you look down and realize that you're running 70 plus in no time flat. There's no huge shove when the turbos spool, it is just power everywhere all the time.

Fuel consumption is about the same as the ranger. To be expected, physics is a cruel mistress.

There's a reason the F150 sells so well. Unloaded, the damn thing drives like a luxury car. Not saying that is good for doing 'truck stuff', but the Ranger was a truck. Harsh around the edges and you knew it was working. This thing is on a different planet. Smooth, comfy, roomy, and like driving a friggen space ship. I didn't have a ton of time to sort out everything before we left, but from what little I messed with, this thing hits all the right buttons in my brain, especially with the data available when you're towing. You can set the screens up completely different between driving modes, so when I'm towing I have ALL the data on screen. (See below).

Haven't had time to mess with the on-board generator, the adapter didn't get here before we left.

I know, I really hated to see that truck go, it was a real trooper and gave me 0 problems. Someone will get a good ride out of the deal.

The F150 is on a whole other planet though. It is pretty clear Ford knows where their bread is buttered and where their development dollars go.

Does that truck have two bench seats? (So it can seat six?)

you’re doing better than the ford marketing team with your mini review ?

Front buckets, so only 5.

If it didn't have the mobile office package I believe it would have a front bench with a fold down center section, but don't quote me on that.
