I had the trans rebuilt March 2024 on my 19 Ranger with under 31,000 miles by the Ford dealer. Had to bring it in again for the TSB update 2 months ago for surging in lower gears when cold. It started shifting hard into 3rd and 4th gear when below 45 degrees for the first several shifts in the morning, then fine the rest of the day. Last Monday it shifted hard into 4th and the coming to a stop the transmission sdownshifted hard and I got the yellow wrench on the dash. I tried to drive and it acted like the trans was slipping (giving it the gas and hardly moving) called the dealer and they said it's OK to drive bring it in Wednesday. The light went off the next time I started it and it shifted OK. The dealer has had it for over 7 working days and they say they can't figure out what's wrong with it. Anybody have any ideas so I tell the dealer what to look for to get my Ranger out of the shop long enough to possibly dump it?

If the check engine light was on, there should be a code in the memory. The dealer should be able to access it.
That's what I thought also but.... I may go talk to the General Manager if they don't have some idea of what's wrong by Monday.

Just exactly what did they do in March of 2024. “Rebuilt” is such a broad term. And the same goes for the “TSB update “ after it was rebuilt ? Details matter and will give clues to the next steps that need to be taken.

They replaced 3 pages of parts but had to do the the 4th gear"clutch" and the 8th gear "clutch"? I bought it as a certified Blue Oval vehicle and had a 90 day front to back warranty so after the first rebuild (before the 90 days of ownership) I have a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty on the transmission. Just replace the dam thing. I haven't told them that when I purchased the truck I bought a 4 year 48,000 mile extra warranty that covers everything including 1 set of wiper blades change, all my electrical sensors etc... the worst thing about this I bought it so it can be towed behind my motor home and spent several thousand dollars on crap so it could be towed. Right now I would be happy to have it back just so I can dump it to give a down payment for something flat towable.

You asked for help from the forum. “ Anybody have any ideas so I tell the dealer what to look for to get my Ranger out of the shop long enough to possibly dump it?”. I asked for details to try to help you out. You gave vague and partial answers. I wish you the best

This is the 2 pages with the meat of the I fo, the other two were loaner car info and how they charged Ford. Can you make heads or tales of it?

Ok. First they reflashed the software. Didn’t fix it. Next they cleaned the valve body and that also didn’t fix anything. Then they replaced the CDF drum and the trash can ( outer shell). Both known problems. So basically they performed the TSB steps. It looks liked they only cleaned the valve body and if thats the case then it could be the valve body acting up ( sticking). Also this is not the rebuild that was done first correct?

Do you still have the OEM dipstick? I'll bet they didn't get it filled properly.

This is what they called a rebuild.

You’re initial post said it was rebuilt and then it had to have the TSB done after that. Looks like they did the full TSB but we’re trusting that the valve body cleaning was sufficient. How long was it ok for after the fix?

Just a heads up, when my Trans was repaired under the TSB they also replaced the clutch fiber discs and steel plates, due to burning and wear. It doesn't look like they did yours's.
