140k miles truck would not start. Took it to the dealer and it’s low compression. Tech recommends putting in a new engine for 10k… or could possibly tear into it for 2k and still need a new engine. Anyone had these issues? Trucks in great shape sucks to have this problem so soon.

What he said, go to another dealer or even another auto shop you're well out of warranty unless you extended and get a second opinion

They sound like they want money

Are you the original owner? Any maintenance records?
Original owner all regular maintenance done at the dealer. Only issue I ever had with the truck was around a year ago. Coolant tank cracked and truck overheated but was pulled over immediately and crutched it home with water and coolant. This makes me think head gasket but when I checked there was no sign of coolant in the oil checking from the dipstick and oil cap.

I am not sure what you mean by this. Did the engine rotate when you tried to start it?

If you are lucky enough to have a Ford ESP, I'd say let them swap engines if they feel that's what it needs. If no ESP, take it to a non-Ford shop. This needs more investigating. Could be blown head gasket or cracked head. Even if it does need replacement, they will do it a lot cheaper.

Interesting, may or may not be related

Any other oddities to report?

140K miles?! You have the highest mileage 5G here...
Union electrician, commute a lot for work… hope it isn’t proof that these all really do need a catch can installed. Had a buddy warn me to install or I’d have issues by 150k…

I installed a metal coolant reservoir and it would slowly lose coolant through the blowoff tube. I had that tested no leaks detected they determined it was the pressure cap not working properly and replaced it. I wondered if Maybe it was exhaust causing this? Or maybe just a lack of it being able to expand like the plastic? Still never noticed coolant in the oil or vice versa just that it was slowly coming from the tube. Other then this I’ve never had any problems with the truck besides the infamous bucking which stopped after sensor was replaced.

The trucks been great the only problem was the coolant reservoir dry rotting around 100k and would swell and leak when pressure built up. Just hoping that this will not be a common problem for others… Unfortunately Price wise it looks like it will be getting a new engine which includes a new turbo. Would still love for it to be opened up though to show the true issue. Maybe a catch can install or possibly a trade in if this becomes an issue for others. Just sucks, love the truck.
