Yesterday I poked around a bit looking at the Tacoma, specifically a hybrid Xtracab. Well, they only offer the xtracab on low trim levels, and the rear 'doors' no long open, AKA access cab. What a load of crap. I guess that's out, and I'll just drive my SCAB into the ground, which means until the trans locks up :)

I traded in my 2021 Ranger SCAB XL today for a Tacoma double cab because of the ongoing transmission issues. I had specifically asked the dealer to find me XtraCab until I realized the rear doors ARE FAKE

I know, right? I had a '93 Toyota extended cab, when it was still called a 'pickup', no other name. I thought that went the way of a dodo. Total BS, the rear doors make it so much better regardless of having no seats. I took the bottom seat cussions out of my Ranger, and I would have taken the back rests out if it was easier, but I can live with them in.

I think you can get a dual cab with a 6 foot bed, but I don't really want the dual cab just to get a 6 foot bed. Oh well.

The one they showed awhile back had doors , I'm pretty sure , I was interested because all rear storage and no rear seats , but if they don't open , they can keep it ...

So Nissan has the only real supercab in 2024 ?
I just took a look at the Nissan site. I guess everyone has dumbed down the SCABs, but the Nissan appears to still have rear opening doors at least.

I don't really want a 6cyl. I do want leather and all the other niceties, without the 4 doors.

This was all academic, I'm not in the market for a new truck, just kicking tires, but it's disappointing.

This is hilarious really. This is the opening. I have one of those Husky rolling toolbags in the back of my supercab. Imagine some Tacoma fanboy trying to stuff this tools through this opening.

They actually added a drop down toolbox with a pegboard in the back seat. But you cannot get to it unless you twist backwards from the drivers seat. If you get a flat are you supposed to swing your jack around the front of the cab, smashing your radio and shifter with it in the process? I actually can't stop laughing at this.

Yeah, It's ridiculous. When the rear doors were introduced I thought what a game changer! I can not imagine who would think this is a good idea, I don't care how much money you save (and it can't be that much in the big picture) this is one of the dumbest thing I've ever seen.

My days of climbing into the back seat of a 1970 pinto are long gone.

My first Ranger (a '98) had the back like this. While I liked the truck, I quickly disliked this particular thing. It was the reason I traded when my lease came due - the 2000 I traded it for had working rear doors which was MUCH better.

I don't know why anyone would design something like this today. Without working rear doors, the space behind the seats is not very usable at all.

'Fraid so.

But looking at the seatbacks, they are probably too upright to put a car seat back there, like a Ranger Scab

i already prepared Roxana for the eventuality of replacing the transmission some day for pretty much the same reason

The article I found about it goes into more detail. I did not notice on the first read how low the leaf springs are to the ground. It's really just a cheapo truck and nothing more.

Thanks for that. I like everything they've done with it. As they said, most people don't care about the rear seats, and I don't either. I sort of disagree that people buy a scab because it's cheap. I guess some, or most, buy it cause it's cheap. I am not one of them. I simply don't need or want a crew cab, but I'd like a midsize truck with all the bells and whistles the crew cab gets, with a 6 foot bed. I guess the market for that is too small to try to address.

Sigh. Goodbye Super Cabs, we hardly knew ye.
