I was wanting a bed step to ease getting into the bed when the tailgate is down.

I really like the simple but effective steps built into the Colorado rear bumper.

The Warn rear bumper has steps and I was thinking about getting it when I happened upon the Black Horse Rear Bumper that also has the steps.

I found it on the bay for <$600 so I ordered it up.

Ordered it last Wednesday and Brown Santa showed up today.

Installed it by myself in a couple of hours. Hardest part by far was disassembling the factory rear bumper.

Follow along for just a bit.

The UPS man left me a present

Nicely packed and much heavier duty than the factory bumper. And with STEPS! Also provision for rear LED cube lights.

Out with the old. The entire rear bumper harness is on one connector. Disconnect it and pull the whole thing down.

Removing the harness and sensors from the old bumper is easy.

Now the (Un) fun part. Disassembling the factory bumper. It may be easier if you don't have the tow package, but mine does so you have to remove the plastic shell on the bumper to get to the steel frame underneath.

Frame reinstalled and ready for the new bumper

And here she is!

And those glorious steps

The first time I hopped up in the bed with them, my immediate thought was "Worth it!"

It's currently sitting at the bottom of the slots so I still have to adjust it up a bit but adjustment is easy.

I'm pleased with it overall.

The only thing I don't care for is that the images showed the trailer connector in the stock location, but the bumper actually mounts it down next to the receiver hitch.

There is room for the cutout and I have a buddy with a plasma cutter so that will eventually be rectified.

Now I just have to wait for @Glocker to get his ARB front bumper and see if it is a good match with this rear bumper.

Edit: This thread has popped up again lately so I decided to add a picture of it after 3+ years on the truck. Pic is from a trail ride last fall.

Sorry, I don't know the weight.

As far as installing, I used a floor jack to hold it up for alignment.

It goes over the skeleton of the factory bumper.

Yes it does.

It's gone up a bit in price.

Here it is for a bit over $800

So, almost 4 years later...

Still looks like brand new, Very heavy duty, and still loving the corner steps.

Edit: Here's the roughly 4 years later pic.

Corporate drone. Dilbert's world is alive & well.

I could totally see that. The height of the Ranger ass end is too high (Sorry! Couldn't pass it up. ) for easy access. I find myself most often using the tire as a step and climbing over the side. Climbing up onto the tailgate is tough. And using the tiny visible corner of the bumper when the tailgate is down is an accident waiting to happen. Though I still do it occasionally.

In fairness to Ford I do look at it sometimes and think "If I was 30 would that tailgate height be that big of a deal to me?" Not sure. But at double 30+ it's a tough climb.

You might look at the ARB bumper, I put one on after a valet parking attendant gifted me with the right rear pushed in just barely touching the body. It seem like it was around $500 bucks. The only drawback I had was trying to get a pin in the trailer hitch, I had to cut away a little metal, but not a big deal.

Any chance of any photos of how the ends match up with the fenders? Do they mirror the side of the fender or stick out?

Thanks!

It sticks out past the edge by about 1/2 inch.
