Bit of an odd one here. This happens ONLY when shifting into 2nd gear, no other gear is affected:

The transmission will lurch / hesitate when shifting when I'm driving differently from how I normally do (due to traffic conditions, like a slow car in front of me off the line).

If I'm able to put my foot down like I usually do, the transmission shifts just fine. No lurching or hesitation. But, living a city you can imagine that I cannot always put the hammer down.

I'm paranoid that the transmission is going out after having a shop claim I needed a new one because this one was "loud". Whatever that means. They were vague and probably just money grabbing.

Any ideas?

Are you experiencing a flare in rpm as it shifts? Possibly only cold? Or it could be almost a bog as it shifts followed by rapid acceleration.

In normal drive mode, the truck skips from 1st to 3rd by design. How long have you owned the truck and is what you are describing new behavior?

Actually I notice it more after the truck has had time to drive around a bit versus cold. There's not a significant amount of bogging as it lurches, but now that you mention it the RPM does fluctuate downward temporarily.

Ah, I didn't realize that. So, maybe I'm experiencing this during the shift into 3rd from 1st. It's a 2021 and the behavior isn't brand new, but it's happening with much more frequency lately.

Just to throw something else into the mix...I ran down to the corner store and put it in trailer mode just for the heck of it, and it didn't shift funky. Strange.

It really is. Horrid throttle response among the issues with "D".

Mine does similar issues, all I can think of is the traction control being way too over active.

I myself turned off the adaptive learning process so the truck tends to use most if not all gears. (1,2,4,5,6,,8,9,10 is the usual pattern) and will hesitate when trying to make a turn from a stop/very low rate of speed.

I gave up trying to figure out what this stupid ass transmissions programming is doing so.. Either I'll make it past 100k or it'll blow up before. I dunno, lol.

Can I ask how you disabled the adaptive learning process?
And yeah, I share your sentiment about either blowing up or making it past 100k lol. We shall see.

I used the software Forscan (https://forscan.org/home.html) using an obd2 adapter (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B094Z7PBLS/)

I used this post as a reference:
https://www.ranger5g.com/forum/threads/turn-off-adaptive-transmission-process.25860/page-10

Although what I did instead was I reset the table, took it for a drive for an hour and then once I felt it was good, I proceeded to halt the process.

I do want to clarify; this procedure gave me my desires results for the most part, my transmission still hates the congested city traffic. I did this to stop the horrible gear slamming, not to clean any hesitation.

Ah, the good old gear slamming in traffic. I know it well. Thanks for the info, I think I may give this a go.

It's like $50 a year for the license but looking at your rig, I don't think that'll hurt you any lmao.
Worst case scenario just revert it back. I disabled the horn honk when locking and other misc items.

The disabling of the shift strategy made my truck much better to deal with in heavy traffic, although as a whole it accelerates a little slower cause it's not skipping many gears anymore. No big deal for me, not like I can enjoy going 50mph for more than 10 seconds anyway...
