Update for everyone. I got FORscan and cleared the tables, and disabled adaptive learning altogether. The truck drives like day one now. Somewhere a Ford engineer is crying that I disabled their algorithm.
Talked with a buddy of mine who used to work for Ford. They call the transmissions the slop box. I'm starting to see why. My '94 E-150 van was the same way.
Can I ask how you disabled the adaptive learning process?
And yeah, I share your sentiment about either blowing up or making it past 100k lol. We shall see.
Just to throw something else into the mix...I ran down to the corner store and put it in trailer mode just for the heck of it, and it didn't shift funky. Strange.
Ah, I didn't realize that. So, maybe I'm experiencing this during the shift into 3rd from 1st. It's a 2021 and the behavior isn't brand new, but it's happening with much more frequency lately.
Actually I notice it more after the truck has had time to drive around a bit versus cold. There's not a significant amount of bogging as it lurches, but now that you mention it the RPM does fluctuate downward temporarily.
Bit of an odd one here. This happens ONLY when shifting into 2nd gear, no other gear is affected:
The transmission will lurch / hesitate when shifting when I'm driving differently from how I normally do (due to traffic conditions, like a slow car in front of me off the line).
If I'm able to...
Ah, yes. That makes sense. The guy at the shop admitted he knew nothing about these transmissions...yet he was eager to replace it, haha. What a joke. Anyway, you made me feel a bit better, so thank you.
Shop got back to me. They claim 1) carrier bearing is bad. This I can believe. 2) They also claim my trans is making a "ton of noise" and needs replaced. Quoted me $7500....seriously. I told the guy to take a hike.
At this point I'm having the shop replace the bearing then I'm getting my truck...
The truck is currently in the shop being diagnosed. A couple of friends and I are taking "bets".
My bet: a bearing in the transmission is bad because that would be a great start to 2024.
J: a wheel bearing
C: U-joint
What's your bets if you're just throwing stuff out there?
I tried that awhile back. No go, there was an awful resonance issue at speeds around 65mph. Not sure what was up with that. It's because I have the longbox Ranger, the shaft is longer and the shop just couldn't get it right. Worth investigating again, though...maybe the place I went to was just...
That would literally make me sick. I put a bunch of money into my rear diff (eaton e-locker and jeep gears). Fingers crossed it's not that. I'll update the thread after my appointment.
