common problems to look out for?

Within the past month, I noticed a click behind the dash sometimes when I first start up. Sounds to me it's in the area behind the display, but hard to tell. The first time I didn't do anything, and since then if I hear it I'll raise the temp setting and it will go away.

It's a 2020, Oct build. My 36m warranty is up in March. I haven't noticed any other issues with heating or cooling. I want to get it checked before warranty is gone, but not sure it will be repeatable when I take it in... you know the drill.


ADDED: BTW, it is NOT the sound like post 214 in this thread. It doesn't sound like a motor trying to move but is stuck. It's a subtle tap, tap. And I don't have any other problems with temp, air flow, etc.

The actuator is noisy. It taps when it stops moving to the new position. There is another member here that also reports noisy actuators without HVAC issues. I'm within my extended warranty, so not bothering to get it checked out unless something fails. I can replace an actuator myself for less than my $100 warranty deductible. My HVAC works perfectly. The tapping noise is more pronounce a few minutes after cold start up. I think the actuators are busy just after start up as they are slowly closing the heater box door as the hearer coils warm up.

Let me know what your dealer says please.

Took it in today to get the hvac checked, and the 2 recalls for the scab. They ordered parts for everything, actuator, seatbelt and headrests. I had checked the seatbelts and they were fine, so I assume they are just replacing all the recalled stuff regardless.

They said they'd start with the actuator and go from there, and since it's under warranty now it will be covered regardless if that fixes it or not. I'll post back once they get the parts.

Looking at a few rangers would prefer a 2020 crewcab 4x4. what issues are you all seeing that are common? bum transmissions? gas in oil?

I just bought a used 2019 Ranger after somebody T-boned my 2000 F-150. Didn't even make it home from the dealer and had to deal with 100 "trailer connected/disconnected" messages even though there is no trailer. I eventually found a bulletin online that listed this as a common problem in 2019 and 2020 models and usually the fix is to replace the entire harness. I'm not happy with the overall cheap interior even though this is an XLT, same as my old F-150. Apparently XLT doesn't mean what it used to - very cheap plastic interior in today's vehicles.

Update on my actuator motor. 2020 Oct build lariat. They ended up replacing the airbox. They had ordered the motor, but the tech said it was the box, and they had one in stock, luckily. Took 2 days, and repaired under warranty since I originally took it in while under warranty. It's now out of warranty, but I'm glad to have this replaced. If I have to replace the motor in the future it won't be thousands of dollars like the airbox would have been.
